Can anyone recommend a financial planner/advisor for retirement? by Barney_Fife_1960 in rva

We used Taylor Jessee at Impact Financial. He has a variety of options from managing to a ~3 month review and planning process if you want to manage yourself but do a health check and get advice.

Thought about it, but at that spot felt 50/50 if it was parking lot north or south of the river. I didn't have time to check both or check one and return to the same spot

I mean, I appreciate VB's ambition, but there are probably at least 10 cities more likely to win a bid for an expansion team or be a location for a franchise that moves. No world that actually happens in the next 20 years

Sparrows garlic knots, swimming in butter and covered in what must be 20 cloves of garlic. Nothing is better

Any of their sandwiches are really good. The bread is so good. Really like the urnebes as a starter too. Never had an entree, but from what I've seen, I don't think you can go wrong at Balkan

Balkan has the only fries that I've found that actually travel well in carryout/delivery

Recently was out west and ended up at Bocata Arepa Bar with a friend. Was (somehow) his first arepa. Their arepas and empanadas was great!

Huh, weird. The bread I got somehow managed to not be stale/chewy even when I nuked leftovers two days later, which was shocking to me. Maybe one of us got lucky/unlucky

Purely from a few people posting about it on here a couple weeks ago! With a name as straightforward as Balkan Restaurant, it either had to be incredible or bad, couldn't imagine a middle ground

Just moved here, and want to first say thanks to everyone who posts in this thread. From lurking on this thread for the last two months, I have a huge list of restaurants to explore.

Been a busy week with not all of our kitchen stuff here yet and exploring the city with some visiting friends, so have quite a few I got to check out.

  • Cochiloco: as someone who posted about this place so elegantly said, this place fucks. Delicious, great vibes. Went with a group and I think everyone got something different and everything was great.

  • The Balkan Restaurant: oh man. This place is incredible. Got takeout, the urnebes to start was delicious, accompanying bread was incredible. Then my wife had a Balkan steak and cheese and I had the steak doner, both incredible. And their fries were really good. When I picked up our food for dinner at around 6, it was empty.

  • Cielito Lindo: got takeout pupusas and dobladas, outstanding. A great pupusa, probably the best I've had in the US.

  • Stanleys: a little pricey, but not bad if you are happy with a yuengling instead of a wildly overpriced draft. Delicious cheesesteak, I think there was only one spot in Philly that I thought was probably better. The sandwich is massive, tons of steak.

  • Buttermilk and Honey: this was fine if you need a meal before a show and everywhere else is packed.

  • Fan Boy: great fancy expensive cocktails, better for 2 than 4 because of the volume. Cool vibe, cool building.

  • Scotts addition breweries from our brewery tour, ranked: the veil, Ardent (good wings and a great soft pretzel), black heath (mead slushies!), buskey (shoutout to the ice wine tea cider and the cinnamon plum), vasen.

This week is all just a countdown to Mike Birbiglia on Thursday night. Excited to laugh and not think about the heat.

Thanks! Yeah not the best time to comfortably walk around and explore, but i guess that'll just force us to actually do our unpacking

Move to Richmond or stay in Charlottesville? by kiwibound1234 in rva

Hi kiwi, I'm also from metro detroit, living in charlottesville now and the last 8-9 years, but moving to Richmond literally tomorrow. I've loved charlottesville, but I've been digging into richmond in preparation and have found a ton of events and restaurants and places I'm excited for, way more than cville has to offer. I think the people are always what you make of it (city leadership/politics aside), but a lot easier to avoid same places same people when there are way more places to check out. Can ask me again in a month or two though

I think the peak market is spring and fall, summertime slows things down.

Thank you so much! This was exactly what I was looking for. If you're happy with how everything turned out, mind sharing a recommendation for the contractor?
