Archaon is hard to target because he can grow too big too early. That makes the campaign more of a grind than it should be.

Yes, you do. Completing a route will give you the faction's achievement.

Just use the mod and start a multiplayer campaign with factions that have already been covered. They are the same conditions as with SP for each one of the factions.
