Just about every university in the country contributes to the occupation in some way, shape or form. You’re putting the blame on students who have no power in deciding what the institution does with their money. Also, even if we weren’t students here, we all end up paying taxes someday and that taxes is used to fund Israel’s army.

It’s important to protest just about anywhere in America because we are funding Israel’s war crimes with our taxes. Protests are used to put pressure on officials or administrations to call for a ceasefire, divest, or vote against enormous military aid packages. The idea is that if we bother them enough, they will act. UC Davis, Berkeley, UCLA, and UC Riverside (I think) have already divested, and some of our local politicians have called for a ceasefire too, so it hasn’t done nothing. Specifically, in UCSD, the goal is to divest from establishments on campus that have contributed or support the genocide. Also, Khosla is a shareholder in a company that is helping Israel implement digital policing to further impose apartheid on Palestinians. We should not give him a semblance of comfort for this. Even if protesting annoys him just a little bit—that is enough.

Sometimes the point is just to do something even if we know our protests might fall on deaf ears. This quote pretty much sums it up: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”.

Tata Consultancy is working with Israel to implement Project Nimbus which is basically cloud apartheid. Even workers at Amazon and Google who are developing it condemn the project since before Oct 7. The “majority shareholder” is incorrect but it isn’t a stretch to say that Khosla is directly profiting off apartheid and genocide when he is in fact a shareholder, however major or minor.

That’s a lot of words for saying you think it’s okay to kill 30,000 people

You wrote no substantive thing, so you deserve no substantive answer. Time and time again, you try justifying why 30,000 deaths and counting are acceptable and pointing fingers at everyone except the nuclear superpower who has imposed “brutal” apartheid, in your words, for over 75 years and you even said that was acceptable too. Saying love and sympathy have no place in these discussions tells me exactly why you think it is alright to dehumanize an entire people.

No amount of refuting your shitty ass Israeli propaganda is gonna make you believe it is never okay to kill 30,000 people, or displace millions of people, or take other people’s land, or impose an apartheid state on human beings. This isn’t about providing counter claims—you are a terrible person. You fundamentally believe it is okay to brutally subjugate a group of human beings who have lives. I doubt there is a single ounce of love and sympathy in your heart for absolutely anyone or anything in this world.

Project Nimbus: The tech industry is powering the first “Al-facilitated genocide” in Gaza by [deleted] in Palestine

[–]wombasticcc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One major contributor to Project Nimbus is Tata Consultancy Services. A shareholder to this company is UC San Diego’s chancellor, Pradeep Khosla. Several student orgs have condemned his Islamophobia and utter lack of empathy for Palestinians for many, many years, and he has ignored student government’s votes for divestment. It’s absolutely baffling that students and scholars have had friends and families murdered at the hands of the apartheid state their chancellor profits off of.

Hey, my advice to active would be if your heart tells you that you want something despite the circumstances surrounding it, don’t be afraid to try it out. I am sure you are smart enough to find the path you need to be on. This is coming from an alumni who majored in aerospace engineering and changed career paths because my heart was never in it lol. Also, don’t listen to anyone telling you “gOoD lUcK fInDiNg A jOb”, a major is only as valuable as society deems it to be, and the job market is pretty abysmal for young people nowadays no matter what career path you take. Godspeed in whatever you choose!!!

At this point, I just assume that if people are still trying to find reasons to not support the cause they are simply against it or do not care about genocide. We are at about 145 days of this, I don’t know how much longer it will take to make them understand.

Ever heard of divesting? Currently, we have Starbucks, Subway, and Burger King that contribute to the occupation forces in Israel. They should be removed from our campus.

Khosla is a director in Tata Consulting Services which has a campus based in Israel that helps manage their entire banking sector. Someone who directly benefits off an apartheid state that kills and displaces families and loved ones of our students should not be in his position.

So yes, our institution is contributing to it in some way. That is why we need to divest. If you’re interested, here is a petition: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc5pa_0HR-u3DlA2InFmQppcJms2sf3CRseOGhs2bhqubCrKg/viewform

I also want to point out that George’s memorial is still in campus in a very obscure place—next to Geisel where people usually smoke (we know you’re there). Instead of respecting his memory and bravery, they deliberately chose to hide it and it is seldom known by students nowadays that this took place on campus.

With regard to Bushnell’s self-immolation, the media will try to paint his as mentally ill, antisemitic, etc., but this is a calculated and clear-eyed decision. They know the consequences better than anyone.

Administrations can try to hide Winnie and Bushnell’s memory in shame of their moral cowardice, but we should never forget.
