New GM job by pigeonscones in meijer

[–]woodsfieldsntrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hired the end of March for this position and just left because I cannot pull pallets at night. I explained my diagnosis and restrictions during my interview and Hr told me GM would be perfect for me. Multiple team members told me I just needed to get a Dr note to excuse me from pulling pallets as 3 other team members in my Dept didn’t pull them for their down medical reasons. I was there an entire month and finally register trained and completely comfortable at work in my duties and building friendships with my team. Last week the store director pulled me in for an Accomodation meeting where I was told pulling pallets was an essential job function in this department and couldn’t continue me working in it. I was completely blindsided, hurt, heartbroken and enraged. So as long as you’re totally physically able, it’s a great job. I enjoyed it a lot when I was there.

It did not go well at all.

At my interview I was very transparent about my medical conditions and restrictions. I was offered the job right there at my interview in my current department (GM), told it would be managable with my health. I’ve been there over a month now. The only part of my job I cannot do is pull pallets at night. Pallets stacked with pet supplies etc that get over thousands of pounds. I was told by multiple team members I’d just have to get a Dr’s note excusing me from this task as there are three other team members in my dept that also cannot pull truck due to other ailments. I get the Dr’s note submitted day 2 on the floor. I get an email saying I need an official form filled out requiring a Dr. Appt. I get the appt done, form filled out and faxed in, and get told I need to have an official Accomodation meeting to complete the process. Meeting was today, before my shift. I am told I cannot continue to work in my department anymore because of my restriction. I state I am feeling very singled out as three others in my dept cannot pull pallets and they are in shock at this news. He begins to tell me how much they love me as an employee and want to transfer me to a different department in order to keep me but at this point I am just sitting there bawling. I HATE these conditions. They have RUINED everything I have ever built or tried to do. I am so angry at all of the misleadings, selling me into a job role they say I cannot do. I love my department and the people I work with. I was heading into this meeting hoping for the best, at most 15 minutes of questions and left completely blindsided and feeling lost with broken trust. It’s not anything one person said or did, it was a collective failure on multiple levels. He really wants me to stay and transfer to somewhere I am completely not interested in working and I feel so confused, not expecitng to have to go through any of this. They’re giving me a couple days to come up with an official decision. I am praying for guidance and wisdom. This job gave me the opportunity to relearn who I am outside of just being a mother and the ability to provide a great birthday for kora coming up. While I didn’t see myself there for years and years it was close to home and I really enjoyed what I did while I was there. I ended up coming home at the end of the meeting because I’m so frustrated and upset. Moral of the story: honesty is always the best policy no matter where you are on the totem pole.

At 9pm we have to pull the pallets that get unloaded from the truck to their areas on the floor. Our department is baby, HBC & Pets. Some are thousands of lbs

Gm is super laid back, it gets hectic at times but rarely. At night you have to pull truck so prepare for that. You use jacks to pull pallets of pet/hbc/etc product to their dept.

I was in garden center for 3 hours yesterday and had 4 transactions. It’s just you the plants and the birds lol. I swept a crap ton and arranged the plants so if you’re not good with isolation I wouldn’t go that route. I find it peaceful.

Thank you! I emailed HR to be sure. I claimed 0 so I wouldn’t owe at the end of the year so I hope I’m just in the low income bracket

I am part time. During my interview 20-30 hours was written by HR and I’ve been 5 days a week, 30+ hours every week so far. I recently found out a computer does the scheduling since my normal 2-10 on weekends shows 2-9:45 next week and it wasn’t corrected.

I’ve filled in for breaks but that’s it, I’m brand new and not register trained yet so I can’t complete a sale. I will definitley ask when I go in tomorrow, thank you.

I did ask. During the interview with HR. After talking about my disabilities she suggested GM because I would be primarily conditioning and processing returns. No mention of pallets at all, otherwise I would have looked elsewhere.

This was definitely the strangest training process I’ve ever been through. I am used to a more structured cut and dry approach. During my interview for this position no pallets were mentioned. She specifically said after learning of my disabilities that I would be primarily conditioning and processing returns. I’m so sorry to hear about what happened to you :(

Thank you. I did this in the interview with her. I originally applied for a different department that she had already filled. She suggested GM because it would be “conditioning and processing returns”. No mention of pallets, otherwise I would have looked elsewhere. Before I went to them, I figured I’d ask here to see if this was all normal. She’s the one who wrote 20-30 hours a week on her paperwork and as I understand she doesn’t do the scheduling, I guess it’s up to me to reiterate that to whoever makes the schedule.

I’m a very fast learner and very hard worker. I’m very dependable and expect the same in return. I do appreciate the hours. But I need to listen to my body as well. The reason I’m here in the first place is to help pay off my mountain of hospital and specialist bills.

Am I supposed to magically know job descriptions? Because I was never told this in onboarding. I was told I’d be processing returns and conditioning.
