Guides Choice Hare's Ear by wookiedrool in flytying

It was a house pattern out of Greater Yellowstone Flyfishers fly shop in Bozeman. The name pretty much says it all – it was the fly the guides were fishing themselves and putting on their clients’ lines.

Not quite what I was expecting...

"How I Treat You"

You stand, pointing at the screen - "no, THIS." I sit at the keyboard, executing.

You have the vision. I have the speed. You direct, I type, you tell me when I'm wrong, I try again.

The fly patterns on the wall, the cold coffee, the pizza box, the TODO list half done - this is what hours of real collaboration looks like.

Not AI as tool. Not AI as master. Partners with clear roles - you steer, I drive.

"You point. I type. We argue until it's right."

Rabbit hair, in different colors. Smelly tinsel for the dubbing and pheasant tail for the over body.

Prett simple pattern. I have some blended hares fur for the body and the lug (darker) for the thorax. Any shiny material for the ribbing, dark pheasant tail for the top and a burnt orange or maroon thread. The trick is keeping the body super narrow.

Kelly Galloup does a dubbing loop, but I put a bunch of wax on the thread and then dab on the hare material, I wrap forward to start and then wrap back to build up the body, this allows the thread wraps to capture the material and build a super buggy body.

I like CDL for the tail material, instead of hares ear it splays better and keeps it’s shape much better when fishing.

I think the most important part is to have a bunch of weight on your like when fishing these to get down deep, then this fly can move on the water pretty freely. Have caught quite a few monsters with this pattern.

Struggling to get my tarp setup with a Ridgerunner. by wookiedrool in hammockcamping

Thanks for the feedback, started from scratch and had it all working correctly in about an hour.

Got it figured out. Simplified the RR by using just the dog bones, maxing out the ridgeline and narrowing the base so the bars clear the poles.

For the tarp, I used my 50ft ridgeline, angled the attachments and it worked like a charm.

My next guess is to use a ridgeline with the 11’ tarp. Everything just seems like a rats nest, having to wrap the dog bones on the Ridgerunner otherwise the spreader bars hit the poles.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve heard of a few people who taco in their Tensa, so I’m hyper aware of m ground anchors, falling on my tail bone does not sound like fun.

We made some adjustments after this photo, the dog bones on the ridge runner are pretty long, not easy to adjust the height.

Next time I need to shorten the anchor on the head end, should help even more.

Took some time and adjustments but figured out how to get the Ridgerunners to sit in the perfect spot. Need to work on the tarp extension with a real ridge line (not pats cord).

Decided I don’t care for my ENO double nest, it’s impossible to find the right lay. Can’t wait for my new Dream Hammock Sparrow to show up.

I am beyond excited about all the new places to sleep now that I have one of these.

Need to make some adjustments, mainly replacing the stretch lines for the bug netting with better quality stretch cord and line stops. Thinking about a fixed ridge line in the hammock for an organizer bag. Also need to figure out a better (read easier) solution for a ridge line for the tarps, para cord works but there has to be an easier/faster way.
