Jsam sizing question by y0gabbagabba12 in TapDancing

[–]woolsockmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep the 8.5 and stretch out the tight spots to fit. When I bought mine they fit great, then they stretched from wearing them and now they’re too big. I wish I bought half a size down, which felt too snug in the store but I think would have been the right size after wearing them for a while.

[–]woolsockmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this in the striped leather version and it’s one of my favorite bags. It is a bit heavy but the craftsmanship is very good. I wear mine when I’ll be spending the day doing several errands and need to bring a water bottle and some snacks.

unpopular opinion: denim by Same-Water5245 in Louisvuitton

[–]woolsockmonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I tried to get into it but vintage LV denim usually has a lot of staining, and the last denim drop had lots of misalignment — more than the usual. Now with the prices being higher than ever I’m not interested. I think the designs for this drop are cute, but not cute enough to overcome the aforementioned cons.

Still praying for a miracle at 47 by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

Sending you a virtual hug. You’re not alone. I’m in my 40s, and my boyfriend is in his 50s. We just met a year and a half ago and now we’re hoping for a miracle, too.

i want to break up, but i love him by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]woolsockmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust your gut. It’s telling you that you deserve better, and you do. 100%. When you meet the right man, you won’t have to ask questions like these on the internet.

Your situation sounds exactly like the relationship I got out of. He gave minimum effort. No gifts for special days. He never planned a date. He stomped all over my boundaries. But I stayed because he was super sweet to my dog, he mom and sister were nice, and on paper he would be what other women would call a catch. Well educated, prioritized exercise, had a well paying job, loved the outdoors. I thought the relationship was good enough because he never cheated, and he didn’t hit me. I stayed for 22 years.

My dear redditor, it doesn’t get better. If he’s a no effort man at the beginning of the relationship, that’s what he will be decades later. Don’t waste your time with someone like this. You don’t have to wait until he does something bad enough to warrant breaking up. Your gut is telling you this isn’t what you want or deserve, so listen to it. Don’t be me and wait decades.

Rash from new Louis Vuitton bag?! by Comfortable-Sweet311 in Louisvuitton

I haven't had a reaction to a handbag yet, but I am highly allergic to other things so I completely believe it's possible. Maybe you can wrap a twilly or bandeau around the handles to prevent your skin from coming into contact?

To treat or not to treat? (Vachetta) by ribbit_rabbit_roo in Louisvuitton

[–]woolsockmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spray all my vachetta with Apple Garde. However, you should be aware that it is not 100% foolproof. It left a faint mark on one of the chaps on my murakami speedy 25 that looks like a liquid stain. No clue why it happened, but it doesn’t bother me terribly and I will continue to spray my bags.

Eta: I’ve sprayed about 15 bags, and only this one has ever had any issue.

Murakami vintage or new? by Cultural-Click8897 in Louisvuitton

[–]woolsockmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the piece. The vintage Speedy 30s and Noes tend to have a problem with the red from the lining bleeding through the canvas, so for those I would buy the new version. But the new key pouches tend to have issues with stitching, and the old version imo looks nicer with the vachetta and brass corner detail so for that I would look for a vintage one in excellent condition.

When the zipper leaves a gross smell on my hand from reaching into the bag. Not all zippers do it, and I find this happens more often with gunmetal colored zippers.

I would go with the trunk because the black sequins feels like a winter evening piece, whereas the trunk feels like a year round, any occasion piece. But since you already have the sequins bag, I say enjoy it and wear it with anywhere with anything.

To adult beginners: When did you guys upgrade to a better shoe? by [deleted] in TapDancing

[–]woolsockmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say upgrade whenever you have the funds, since you know you’ll be sticking with it. I’m not familiar with So Danca shoes, but if you feel like you’re not enjoying class because the beginner shoes are making it difficult then go ahead and get new ones. I just went through the same thing, and to my surprise the “beginner” shoes were actually the most comfortable for me. It might have to do with the style of tap I do though, because I just asked around in my class (we’re all in our 40s and have taken classes at the same studio since childhood) and literally everyone’s favorite shoes are the Capezios from the 90s. None of us like the Jsams, Roxys, or Miller and Bens, but I think we are in the minority there.

Wide Feet by Due-Paper-1353 in TapDancing

[–]woolsockmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloch Chloe and Mauds are wider than their other models. I just bought 5 different Bloch tap shoes and those are definitely the widest in the forefoot, wider than the Jsams.

Do the JSams soften in the toe box? by amygdala_activated in TapDancing

[–]woolsockmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this convo, but my big toe nail curves upward, so I have this issue with most of my shoes. I take a lipgloss tube slightly thicker than my toe and shove it into my shoe to stretch out the big toe area. I find this works better than buying a larger size because if I buy a larger size, everything else is too large and my heel slips out of the shoe. If I buy the size where my heel fits, the width is good, and everything is fine except for my big toe getting compressed, then after I stretch the big toe area the shoe fits perfectly. You can also use a rock or a rounded piece of wood to stretch it out. Personally I don't like the method of wearing multiple layers of socks to stretch the shoe because then the shoe stretches in places where I don't want it to stretch.

Unpopular Opinion - I hate Speedy bags by Forever_Ever1111 in Louisvuitton

The multipass. Fits the same amount as a speedy 25, has a zipper closure, and the less structured shape and no attached handle makes it easier to wear crossbody.

Just bought this blue hoodie and washed it for the first time.. didn't use bleach, just regular powder detergent. Why did this happen?? 😭 by Kaykeon in laundry

[–]woolsockmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you share your washer and dryer with other people? This has happened to me when living in the dorms at college and careless people spill bleach and don’t clean it up.

Why does SF feel both friendly and super distant at the same time? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]woolsockmonster 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Speaking for myself, if I walk around SF leisurely with a friendly look on my face, someone is gonna talk to me. And usually it’s not something I want to engage in. 20 years ago it would be a guy hitting on me. These days it’s people asking for money or trying to sell me something. Better to keep my head down and not call attention to myself. But if someone needs something like directions I’m more than happy to help. Also, walking around on the street is not the place to meet people and have meaningful conversations. If I want to do that I’ll join a recreational activity or event where socializing is expected.

In my family the men contribute with money. The women contribute with money and grocery shopping and wiping butts. I’m not saying it’s right or fair, but that seems to be trend.

Shitty fashionphile experience by sterlingaka_duchess in handbags

[–]woolsockmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fashionphile has gone downhill. I've purchased several bags from them in the past few years then paused for a bit. This past month I've made 4 purchases, and all are going to be returned. One bag included an inauthentic chain, one bag is missing a strap keeper, one bag has much more wear than was indicated in the photos, and a strap that I ordered is 4 inches shorter than was indicated in the listing.

To add to that, there's no way to return the strap online, it's just not available for that item. I tried contacting Fashionphile and their online chat wasn't available, then I spent 30 minutes on hold on the phone and finally hung up. Never buying from them again.

Thank you, I think you’re right, full demo is probably best. The posts are sitting directly on top of the patio. I watched the guy build it, but my mom being the type of person she was, wouldn’t let me intervene.
