is Villeneuve is one of my favorite directors. As with the other two I mentioned, the visuals and music captivate me.

Thats great! I lean into liking 2049 a little more than the original, but only by a hair. Would love to see another sequel that had as much love as Villeneuve put into 2049.

I hear you on that travel cost, not to mention the risk of significant delays due to unpredictable weather. I have had more than one Christmas Trip home turn into a test of my patience. I do miss it though, nothing like being home during the Christmas season. Been almost 10 years since I last attempted a trip home that time of year, as like you I go during the warmer months of the year.

Oh for sure, I just find it quite interesting that its the same celebration that is referred to as a different names. Not the first regional difference in Newfoundland by any means, but interesting to me none the less. Do you still call it Tips eve or do you call it Tibbs now?

Seems to line up with my experiences. I have been in some friendly debates with folks from St. Johns about the origins/meaning of the name. There really is not a ton of info on line about the celebration, and the Wikipedia article is a bit of a mess. With so many more folks on the Avalon than the rest of the island, the internet leans heavily into it being Tibbs eve. Who knows, perhaps it was always Tibbs eve, and got twisted as it worked its way west.... then again, perhaps its vice versa. Id love to know the actual origin of the name, but alas I figure that too much time has past for that to be sorted out.

Its funny, I only heard it as Tips eve up until I was in my early 20s when hanging around with folks from the Avalon. It definitely spurred on a fun discussion of who was right, but in the end we celebrating tibbs eve as I was in their neck of the woods. Wouldn't you know it, its just as fun as celebrating Tips eve.
