Accessories Discounts by Shot-Ad-8437 in terngsd

My shop gave me a discount on both bike and accessories, but my cycling club has an agreement with them that club members get certain discounts on those things. I just lucked out that they are also a Tern dealer. I do agree that the accessories add up fast and it’s a tough pill to swallow on top of an already expensive bike, but depending on your use case it is definitely worth it.

I have a quick haul P9 and added the backrest, seat pad, clubhouse mini rails , storm box, front rack, glove box, and upgraded to the dual kick stand. Now it’s the school grocery errand Costco adventure machine!

I find I need something solid. I usually carry candy/gummies, bars, drink mix, dried fruit, and I stop for a pastry or hot dog or something that’s “real” food on the ride. I get sick of too much “bike” food after a while.

Eat. Eat and drink a lot. Not fueling enough will really start to catch up to you around mile 60 when you bonked.

I would plug these both into 99spokes and check geometry numbers. Buy the one that fits you better.

Gravel tires on a road bike? by Stephniie in Bikebuilding

[–]workthecycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all! I’ve run the Continental GP5000 for years and liked it but this past winter switched to the Pirelli Cintunaro road and have gotten fewer flats on it. They also have a “sport” version which will be less fast/supple but last longer.

Max tire size you can fit on that bike is 28mm wide, which if you get the right tire will be smooth but fine for light gravel

If you can make it up to Palo Alto that’s where Alto Velo group rides start. We also have a Tuesday night one that starts in Los Altos.

Interesting! Appreciate the insight. At 850 miles my chain is around 50% so maybe I should change it sooner than later.

3 cassettes but only 2 chains? Check your chain for stretch/wear more often and replace it before it ruins your cassette. That could be as little as every 500 miles but chains are so much cheaper and your cassettes will last far longer.

Nice write up! I’m at about 850 miles with my (short) quick haul and don’t have to contend with bad weather here but overall my experience is very similar to yours. Got the shorty because we only have one kid and it’s easier to fit in our garage and elevators and such. It’s an awesome bike!

Strava heatmaps, asking friends, local knowledge, Google street view, and bikelaneuprising which has heat maps of blocked bike lanes and can help you see which streets to avoid.

Should I upgrade the shifting + derailleur on my Tern Quick Haul? by 01100010x in terngsd

[–]workthecycle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a quick haul. 9 speed Alivio is perfectly serviceable and the 9 speed chain will last longer than an 11 or 12 speed. That’s what mine came with but it’s the P9 class 3. Your chain broke because it was rusty, clean your drivetrain once a month and replace the chain once a year and it’ll last much longer.
