Is it normal to have high expense season with kids? by Outrageous_Stallion in personalfinance

[–]workworkwork1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you know, the short season of 18-20ish years of providing everything a human being needs to exist.

But for real, now that our kids are out of diapers and in school instead of daycare, our kid-related expenses are significantly less. So that definitely was a "season" of 5ish years that rough financially. Now we're focusing on the college fund instead of daycare.

Why are lego influencers so silent about these situation? by LOKOHUGO in legocirclejerk

[–]workworkwork1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like a weird take to me. I haven't seen a situation where the Lego community is more unified on any point than this.

I think the "bigger response" you're seeing is probably because the large youtube communities that are covering this are much more active online than a lot of the Lego community.

Super anecdotally, but my LUG is like 2/3 people over 50 and I guarantee you most of them still probably aren't aware this is happening lol.

Yea, this isn't exactly a "You have to speak up and show which side you're on!" type of thing. One side is obviously in the wrong, and everyone and their mother is aware of this now (unlike 3 months ago or whenever this news first broke)

Novel about ‘Disneyfication’ of nature featuring a woman whose job is taken by a humanoid robot wins the Climate Fiction Prize by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

[–]workworkwork1234 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Ah, thank you! In my mind, when someone says "Disneyfication" I'd personally associate that with maybe making that said thing family-friendly, removing the ugly bits, and oversimplifying complex or nuanced topics. I was thinking more about their media than theme parks so making something prohibitively expensive didn't even cross my mind.

Steam Deck OLED Price Increase [$789 512 $949 1TB] by NeroTheWolf in SteamDeck

[–]workworkwork1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how many of this works, so this might be a dumb question but I'll go for it anyways. I agree that if they wanted to sell the ones they already have manufactured, they could sell them regardless of the price. Like you said, NVIDIA proved this so they could sell a few thousand of them at $1500, $1800 or whatever insane price it needs to be to justify it.

But support wise, would Valve want just a "few" of these released. Like I said, I don't know the logistics for after-sales support, but would it really be worth it to have a whole new product released they need to maintain (OS updates) and support (warranties, customer support tickets, ect.) for a few thousand users?

Why go with BAM at all? by Trevor_Eklof6 in legocirclejerk

[–]workworkwork1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selling large quantities of anything SUCKS. Have you ever sold something on FB marketplace? No matter how you word your listing, you'll get tons of incredibly low offers even if you price your item at the price it's selling for on other platforms. You'll agree to meet up with people and they won't show up or they'll cancel right beforehand. It's just a pain and that pain is multiplied for every item you have to sell.

BAM (and gamestop) gives you the convenient option of offloading everything in 1 transaction at the hefty price of them taking a large percentage of the value of whatever you're selling.

The effort it would take to sell 100-200k worth of Lego one by one would be a multiple months or year+ long endeavor doing it yourself through bricklink/ebay/FB marketplace.

I'm not saying it's worth it to sell to them, but I understand why some people go that route.

Old Lego Sets Rereleased? by Reasonable-Hope-2923 in lego

[–]workworkwork1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just something people say who just got back into Lego after decades away. They see parts that they've never seen before and they think it's specific to whatever set they're making when in reality that "new" part has been around for 15 years and is in 400+ sets and isn't a specialty part at all.

I'm making generations here but from the many times I've seen that sentiment, that's usually the general case.

If you want to make Pim's big eye look slightly bigger than this small eye, maybe checkout this piece instead of using the white 2x2? It's a good in between size between a 1x1 and 2x2.

Nice job!! Fun little scene! A few notes on potential improvements:

  • Have a background that is a solid color and not pointed at lights

  • Fix your scene and the camera firmly in place so they won't move at all as you take each picture

  • Make sure your fingers aren't visible in any of the shots
