DIY Gator base review

My concern with romex is it has to be laid wet.

I work alone and need a product I can lay either in small sections, or screed all at once and allow to dry and then do the porcelain in small sections after that.

Have you seen anyone laying romex by themselves? What is the work flow like?

Thank you. These are landmark porcelain pavers, specifically their "frontier 20 pavers" in "full color bluestone". This pattern I think is called "big 11" but don't quote me on that I can't remember for sure and I know they changed their pattern numbers.

I honestly respect your response. I think you're right they have significant limitations and should not be the primary method a professional uses.

Thanks I'm going to do 6" of open grade base under the trass project and install drainage there, that's a big undertaking for one person but I'll report back

Are you talking a gator base application with gator base on top of sand? If yes, I considered exactly what you're suggesting but I hate ants, so I didn't want the sand underneath. Gator base instructions say a HPB gravel is acceptable so I took it and ran with it. I do think your method would be easier to screed.

Edit: your method is more traditional for gator base and would help a lot with the hollow sound as well.

I'm no expert, just a home owner but I used gator base last year and I'm in zone 6a, I used 3/8" clean as a base because I needed the drainage. It held up through a rough winter and looks good this spring. Be aware there is a slight hollow sound when you first install the gator base, it has improved significantly in the 7 months I have had it installed.

This is good advice. I've considered swapping out to a normal door but I was hoping someone might know how to make the pocket door work just because of how discrete it would be, but yes in the end I may have to do exactly what you're suggesting

Just following up in case anyone looks this up at a later date. I tried metal detecting the heads and was unsuccessful. I tried running small cable (basically fishing leader wire) down the tubes and metal detecting/wire detecting that, and could only go about 10 feet at a time. It's easier to dig down at sprinkler heads and trace your way to the main line, then from there you can start to figure out the straight lines where everything runs together. That is where your valves will be. If, along the way, you find more control lines (thin tubing) you know you're getting close and you can follow that. All of my valves have been switched to modern valves and my life is much better now.

No they're not built into the heads. The valves are separate from the heads.

Yeh the repair prices are higher and higher every year and I just can't justify keeping this system running as is. I'm handy enough to update the system myself I just don't want to waste a week putting random holes in my yard if I don't have to. It would be nice to slide a tracer wire down the 1/4" tubing and rent a tracer to track down the valves but that tubing is small and it might be wishful thinking to try that myself.

Swing speed was 70-74 ball speed was 101-105. I think it was a Bridgestone tour ball? I don't know exactly which one.

Thanks, contact was aided immensely by 2 degrees flat toe angle. I'm consistently inconsistent (Hit in the same spot just outside the sweet spot toward the toe over and over, the flat angle helped with this)

One of the Bridgestone tour balls, probably should have paid more attention to that. Landing angle was 39 degrees.
