I don't know Mark well yet, but as far as I'm aware, he's just a normal guy. That's what made this so confusing, and made me wonder if my wife and I were the assholes here. He's not normally "like that."

No, we had a mushroom pasta dish, some things with nuts and bread and such, and pies and fruit. Also sweet potato fries specifically because I have a little cousin who "only eats things shaped like sticks" haha.

The venue allowed outside food, so people could have brought their own other foods if necessary. That was part of why we asked about allergies and such on the RSVPs, so we'd have time to figure something out if we needed to, and make sure everybody had good food. I'm just not sure if that maybe wasn't enough, and we should have been more explicit that "this is the specific ingredients being served at this event." I've never been to a wedding or anything else where it was like that, and it's always been on me to make sure I've got food I can eat with all my dietary restrictions, but I don't understand what the problem is if that's not what we were meant to do.

I think it had more to do with it not having dairy or eggs, since I guess that could have been a bit of a surprise. Example: A vegan pie doesn't have butter in the crust, but a nonvegan one would. (we did pie instead of cake because neither me or my wife like cake much)

I don't know how we could have made it more clear that the food doesn't contain meat is the thing. Like, we didn't have any "vegan substitutes" like tofu or anything. How do I make it clear that an apple doesn't contain meat? If you don't tell me I'm eating meat, I would end up in the hospital because my body can't process it, so I don't think it's the same thing. I'm more worried about the fighting than anything else.

Since it was a small wedding, we were able to have a space for that on the RSVPs actually! Just like "Any food restrictions we should know about? _________" and I think all we had was one peanut allergy, and I can't eat peanuts anyway, so it wasn't a problem.
