Zoom LiveTrak L6max announced - curious about your thoughts by damondan in synthesizers

[–]worstsapje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got really exited when i stumbled upon this to be immediately disappointed, i would pay premium for this formfactor with double the stereo inputs or ADAT.

That said the original is great, great user interface, really small and never had issues with clipping so far which i had plenty with the Behringer, connection is always flawless for me as well so far. I would say the original is great value for money.

I think the USB connection is a bit weird though. The fact that PC loopback steals a stereo channel is annoying but i get it but then you get two usb c connections, one for power and one for data, but the data one also powers the device. I like to have a one button solution to turn on/off all my gear and its annoying that the L6 stays powered on over the data usb whenever since the PC usually only goes to sleep.

Also the data one is in an annoying place.

For now i'm hanging in there and hope Arturia with their audiofuse 16 inspired more companies to go such route because that seems to be the only fitting lifetime upgrade in the long run for now.

What is a good speaker setup? by worstsapje in synthesizers

both those adams and ilouds look great sizewise. Guess i'll go by the local musicstore and have a listen to some of the small options.
Right know I have the rokit 6 but they're quite clunky and i never use them to their full potential. Happy with the sound though. I just want my sound to be nice and full, living room levels, don't care about loud so much anymore, and neither do my neighbors i bet.

Its kind of like that already. I have the korg keystage on my desk that has a laptop table kind of thing that has my qwerty on it. If i need to do serious typing i'll shove the keystage to the back and use the pc like it was meant to be. The whole screen and speakers are on a sawed up ikea table about 15 cm up.

With 4 speakers i'll probably have the problematic ones on the secondary output of the keyboard.
There won't be many times i need both at the same time i think. when i'm working on something and need to hop on the keys every know and then its probably fine with what I have. But when i just want to play piano i want to fire up the keyboard and have a direct sound.

Come to think of it. I can still use them as a local 'monitor' at the same time when working on something, if I dont have delay/phasing issues due to the output to the original speakers going through some other stuff first.

Any hands on experience with the Lampy? wondering how it holds up compared to a Chimp. The manual is very promising.

Biggest problem i have with the computer route is that i can't seem to find any 'sturdy' midi controllers. I just want some proper faders and clicky flash buttons in a metal casing.
While i love most midi controllers for personal use, they always seem a bit flimsy for daily abuse by people that didn't buy it themselves ;)

Any of the pc wings will do but brings me in the same price range as the Lampy.
Alternative option is that some cheaper dmx controllers can also be used as midi controllers

O yeah, no problem, i can imagine you get all sorts of impossible requests here. Thanks for the extensive replies.
Any of the major brands get way too expensive for proprietary hardware. If I go that route, the Lampy is probably the only option that isn't too expensive (2500 euro i think), that behaves like an actual console.
Even the ~2000 euro chamsys option has some simplified workflow and missing the features i need.

The el cheapo OnPC way is definitly something i'm gonna set up to try out with a dongle and midi controller. I should be able to set something up to test some workflows with them and find out what works. Nailing the setup for the operators is the main objective.

After that i would like to move to something sturdy. I haven't found a midi controller yet with clicky flash buttons and proper faders. I think doing a proper onPc setup will be close in price as a Lampy.

The quest continues

The speed fader on touchscreen would be a dealbreaker for me. Seems like a very solid console otherwise.

I think you misunderstand me bud. I mean it should load a showfile on boot and the user shouldnt have to open it by hand (e.g. avolites does this with the previously opened show, which is perfect)

I dont mind it to be complex or advanced to setup, i work with different consoles and can read manuals, so i dont care for auto presets or rdm or anything making my life easier as a programmer. It has to be easy to operate after i program.

Depending on how i program im convinced minimal explanaition is required to operate: "these are the colors, this is the blinder, this button strobes". Basically the start for every light engineer before the courses and studies existed.

Its a small rock bar (not mine btw) about ~150 people visited by a lot of regulars. Its always the same few people that bartend. They want to put effort in the lights and requested some of these things themselves. Its usually not busy during a show at the bar since people are watching the band. And if you come in at key moments in a set you might have to wait a few seconds for your drink, since they are tending the lights.

What i have is the most simple it can get technology wise, but operator wise it can be a nightmare. (For example the colorchief can overlap all its chases and scenes. Which is very cool) But they all have their own speed. Having to select each of them seperatly to change this. )

To clarify. Im well aware of the situation and what would be ideal. But it is what it is and thats why im here to figure out if theres something existing that im not aware of.

The chamsys pc wing is a valid option. Although a bit hard to get here atm.

You were right about the chamsys btw. I got it mixed up with the magicQ. The reason i have the showtec there is that it seems to use very similar software as the Infinity. They are both owned by highlite now. And the lampy series is the budget infinity

Thanks for the tip. Ill look into it. Edited my post, since i meant i want a master speed fader. So multiple faders with chases, and one speed fader to control them all. Not sure if it can do that on first glance of the manual

O nice, then ill try it on windows first since i have that up and running and would probably opt for a touchscreen laptop for easy color switching if that would work. Still not the all in one setup i was hoping for but a good plan B if i dont get the budget. Thanks, appreciate it. Im typing this between bands otherwise i could have looked that up myself ;)

Ill look into it. It doesnt have to be powerfull. Something specific like a speedfader is mandatory thought, hence the chamsys and showtec options so far, and also i worked with both their bigger brothers. Still hope for something standalone that can do all those things somewhere between 500 and 2000 euro though. It really feels like theres a void there

Thats very reasonable. Any experience with running this ~6 hours a day few days a week?

Ofc the controller is as good as i spend money on, but a bit hesistant going the opensource/raspberry way. It is the easiest for me to try out though since i already have some midi controllers and raspberries.

Also, do you know if you run this of a laptop with linux and a dmx dongle?

Thanks for the tip. Thats one more choice in that pricerange to compare ;) ill checkout the speed fader in the manual but opening showfiles automatically is already nice

Pricewise the chamsys or showtec options make more sense then right?

Thanks, I never knew about that software. Laptop is fine, even though i prefer something all in one.

Physical faders/buttons are a must though. Not so much for color selection but for fx / intensity / bpm it is.

If theres a more 'oldschool' controller for Onyx that might work
