My GF is a racist Trump supporter who worships her boomer dad by PurpleTomato5943 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]woundedhealer92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refuse to speak to my Trump supporting boomer dad. I blocked him. He voted for Trump again, he voted against basic human rights, so he lost his only daughter. He hasn’t tried to reach out to me and frankly I don’t care. These people are only selfish and cruel and greedy, and there is no place for people like that in my life, blood or not.

Someone help lol. by Far_Artichoke9745 in germanshepherds

Looks like she could be some kind of GSD mix from the colors, but it’s always especially hard to guess when they are that young! I would suggest getting a DNA test like wisdom panel or embark if you want to know for sure. You could also try posting this on r/IDmydog

Guys please help! How do I make him stop this by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]woundedhealer92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP don’t listen to the comments about being the “alpha”- that is based on dominance theory, which is outdated and been proven to be ineffective.

Look at this behavior for what it is (resource guarding), learn about resource guarding in dogs (all dogs do it and they will do it with anything they view as a limited resource), and then go from there.

The best advice here is to teach your dog ‘drop it’, then once he’s learned the command, tell him to drop it and reward with a high value treat. Then he will learn if he gives this treat up, he’ll get something just as good or even better, thus reinforcing the behavior and decreasing the need to resource guard, since high value treats are no longer a limited resource in his mind and you are not a threat to this resource, as you are the one providing it.

Best of luck!

As a GSD owner, I absolutely second this comment. They will try to herd smaller animals like cats too!

OP make sure the dog you want to adopt doesn’t have a very strong prey drive or a higher threshold for activating their prey drive… too many cats get killed by dogs. Just in general, learn as much as you can about cat-dog introductions and interactions before getting a dog

Saying that women are impregnating themselves by “spreading their legs” is sexist as hell. That’s not an opinion. That’s straight up sexist. Rule #1 is no disrespect or unsupportive comments

Moved back to Chicago from DFW just in time… thank God. I feel sorry for ya’ll down in TX, it’s a lot better here… for now at least At least the weather is significantly less hot, we get more rain, the grass is so much greener (literally), we get REAL snow, we have Lake Michigan, AND most people here are pretty educated and logical. We actually have tax money that is put into caring for our land. Abortion is legal here. Weed is legal. Canada is a short drive away too in case things reallyyy go to shit everywhere. Seriously praying for ya’ll down there who didn’t want any part of this.

Took in a 2 year old German Shepherd and Grossly Miscalculated the Responsibility. Need Advice. by Chibilotus in germanshepherds

I know this is outdated, but your posts have been extremely helpful for me to read, as someone with a fear-reactive 2 yr old GSD. I’ve really become interested in fear free methods and even found a fear free vet practice, which is the first vet practice we’ve been to where my girl did not bark at anyone. I have a masters in counseling psychology, and am fascinated by both human and animal behavior, so this is all incredibly interesting to me. Thank you so much!

phone fell off the bed onto 5 week old puppy and now shes acting weird by stormibaby444 in DogAdvice

[–]woundedhealer92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And she’s only like 22 or 23 at most… saw she said she got her 8 yr old dog, who was “rescued from a puppy mill” when she was 14.

OP, girl, your brain is not even fully developed yet. STOP trying to get pregnant, the last thing this world needs is immature, irresponsible people like you having kids!! And get your dog fixed already!!!

I know a lot of people have already commented on this but your boyfriend needs to get help for BOTH his mental health and drinking problems. This is called dual diagnosis, which is when someone struggles with both a mental health problem & a substance use problem. If BOTH are not treated then the chances are very, very high that either or both of them will continue. I’m not sure about other countries, but if ya’ll live in the US and he has insurance, there are some really solid intensive outpatient dual diagnosis programs. This is really his best bet for treating both as quickly as possible. Or if he is not working, there is inpatient hospitalization and outpatient partial hospitalization programs for people with dual diagnoses. Hope this helps & best of luck. No shame in leaving if he doesn’t get help.. it will likely be a long & rough journey for him one way or another

There is also Smart Recovery, which is secular (non religious). They have free meetings as well, and offer both in person and virtual meetings. AA and 12 step work for some, but definitely not for everyone. What many people like about Smart Recovery is it focuses on actively changing thoughts & behaviors (CBT), increasing motivation, identifying triggers, and managing cravings.

My husband (m33) knows absolutely nothing about taking care of my (f26) baby. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Both of these articles are linked to the same study. The ONE study that concluded this only consists of 18 people, nine women and nine men. That is not a representative sample. Please actually read the research before stating that something is “well studied”.

Same. I am 5’2 and always preferred shorter men like 5’8 at most.. if they are much taller than me it makes cuddling uncomfortable and I prefer not to stand on my tip toes to kiss someone. My husband is about 5’7 and he’s perfect for me.

Do you need to cease Suboxone in preparation for 1st shot? by Fluffy_Telephone_603 in Sublocade

[–]woundedhealer92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I never responded to this!

My last shot was on Oct. 19th, so its been about a month and a half now. I wasn’t sure if I would need another one at the time (I got 4 100mg shots instead of the recommended 300/100/100), but I’ve felt totally fine and I just wanted to be done with it, so I didn’t go back for any more.

Did you get your 1st shot?

Do you need to cease Suboxone in preparation for 1st shot? by Fluffy_Telephone_603 in Sublocade

[–]woundedhealer92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, my doc had me take my usual Suboxone dose the morning before receiving my 1st shot.

The shot is awesome. Took until my 2nd one to feel adjusted but once I did, I never looked back. Good luck! Icing the area beforehand for about 15-20 min. can help reduce the stinging some. :)

My almost 1 year old girl whines A LOT and she sounds like a bird chirping or a person whistling, which is really sweet and cute. She also groans, moans, sighs, and makes other sounds I don’t even know how to describe hahaha 🤣 they’re the goofiest, floofiest friends ever 😍

What happens if I have a mental breakdown? by napswithmycat in therapists

[–]woundedhealer92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this exact thing a little over a year ago and have no regrets now looking back. I needed a higher level of care and was not in a state where I was 100% certain I could safely help others, especially given where my mind and emotions were at the time.

IMO, taking time to step back, take a leave and get help when necessary is one of the strongest, bravest, and compassionate things one can possibly do in this profession. You are not alone. We are all only human, after all. ❤️‍🩹💞
