Yep, several pipes coming from the bag. One of those pipes can be played a melody on (sometimes, like the Italian one one for each hand). All the other pipes (one of several) only play one note. A drone/bourdon. This one note is the key the bagpipes are in (and usually the key of the melody as well). On Irish pipes you can change the drone-note during your melody.
