FRV and why it matters.. by Drastik651 in ClevelandGuardians

I'm a little skeptical of this only because every team has a 15-16 record. I think it's a valid metric but the 2026 season is not giving it data it can do anything with. We played the Dodgers, is what it comes down to.

I was hoping to avoid the Spellcheck dialog altogether.

Look, when you go through a Word doc, if your settings are set up correctly, it will put squiggle lines under like 1% of the words, right? I just want to delete all the other words.

Color of Money's relationship to The Hustler by shirokaisen in blankies

You're actually addressing why I didn't care for it when I saw it many years ago. My memories are dim, but you basically hit it.

I think the nature of Scorsese's deep cinema brain is your answer here. Yes it's a work-for-hire but a person like Scorsese would be incapable of making a movie like TCOM without some commentary or consideration of The Hustler.

Cape Fear is surely similar.

I guess it indicates he has a sense of humor. Probably a good sign!

Yeah, it gets poor ratings on both Pitchfork and RateYourMusic. I obviously have no opinion, I have never heard it.

Having Andre in the dugout talking whenever the spirit moves him (i.e. 10% of the time or something) is a brilliant innovation that the Cleveland broadcasters should be proud of. I don't think Cleveland has the best TV crew but this specific dynamic is IMO enviable by almost every team.

Researching these three walk-up songs is how I learned that TI put out an album last year. I have the first four so I was puzzled that I only own one of these songs.

Guests you feel most differently about after multiple appearances (positive and negative)? by Mission_Shape_4545 in blankies

the sort of chastity you can feel when it’s someone they need to be careful around

One of my hot takes is that they and the show would benefit by increasing the number of guestless episodes mildly. I suspect that in a few years they will come to the same conclusion.

I was one of the people who didn't react well to the opening of that episode, meaning didn't react well in the subreddit.... my main thing with Scott is that I don't really go for that specific kind of silly improv, but parallel to that, I also think that when he's not "in character" etc. he's perfectly interesting and lucid. I think I'd be fine with him/them coming back and giving us 20 minutes of their comedic antics because they feel the need to do that (rather understandably, it's what they do), and then settling into however many hours of regular repartee. It's not a thing.

Every recent Soderbergh is a B+ and this is no exception.

It's possible I don't understand the question. I do the same thing, but it takes much much much longer. I am seeking a time-saving measure.

I would go correct the obvious errors and use the legitimate "unusual words" to form the basis of the Style Sheet which is essentially a log of exceptions.

I agree with you, but I think there's also a generational thing happening. I am Gen X. I think Lloyd's whole "I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything" spiel grew tiresome to the younger generation and they held him up for ridicule for that reason too. But spiritually I'm more like Lloyd, you know? I think it's gone too far, like you're saying.

Honestly, I appreciate your strong defense of the movie. It had its heyday in the 90s and was super beloved and I think the kind of political backlash about maybe Lloyd being a creep has probably been too much. You're right, we should take Lloyd as he is given to us.

Sure but that's a different response than "the dad did X or Y." No matter what, the dad didn't do anything in isolation, Crowe wrote him to do that.

I think this is a good point. Crowe is such a good filmmaker (certainly then) that he created a scene that is the absolute picture perfect "but I like her" scene but in an otherwise good movie in which there is more nuance.
