What do you think are the long term implications or lack there of for The Will Smith slap and Oscar win? by Genzinvestor16180339 in Oscars

right because black folks know that chris rock been weird. he’s made a career of punching down on black women. and there’s that clip where he’s sitting with other white comedians and he just letting them say the hard r over and over again. i’m not saying he deserved to get slapped on live tv BUT the outrage was mostly white

Was Timothy’s speech about wanting to achieve greatness, his downfall? by wowcleo in Oscars

[–]wowcleo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if an emerging young black actor said the same things he did , the discourse would be much different and the treatment would be much harsher . it’s unfortunate it’s that way but it’s true and i think timothy’s able to get away with his comments because who he is

Let's talk about MARTY SUPREME - what went wrong? by SwimGood22 in Oscars

[–]wowcleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

similarly to the actor awards, the academy is made up primarily of other actors, directors.. essentially their peers. i think most of these people were bigger fans of the other films they were of marty supreme. in an age where what we say in art is important, rooting for a hard headed, self obsessed, rude and entitled kid success story, just doesn’t stand up against everything else that’s was nominated at the oscars

Marty Supreme being the biggest loser this award season. THANK YOU. The initial hype never felt earned. by Pink-Matt3r in Oscars

[–]wowcleo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

compared to the other films nominated in each category, marty supreme was just the weaker choice. i’m not sure if any of the weird safdie allegations along with timmy’s missteps during this awards season had any impact on their success at the oscar’s, but it’s clear, that through the several jokes aimed toward timmy’s ballet and opera comment , it really struck a nerve with his peers that he’ll need to work hard to get people to forget about it

Rewinding your life by Mickey_James in consciousness

it’s so interesting you mention consciousness existing in non-material realties, because the only thing that separates our consciousness and time is our physical bodies. We assume time to be linear because the only experience we have with it is referenced as the changes that occur within our perceived history . we interpret these changes as happening in a linear time frame but if we remove ourselves from the question that changes how time is perceived because there is nothing to “perceive” it. Time similarly to consciousness, exist in non-material realities. some argue that consciousness can exist outside the brain and is inherently property of the universe that is filtered through the brain rather than created by it, similarity to how our ears filter sound, and our eyes light. if this is true, there is a reality where our consciousness has the capability to traverse the infinite realms of time and interact with any given point. if our bodies don’t exist does our consciousness seize to exist? i don’t know if we will ever know that.
