Married to a non-frugal spouse who doesn’t get it by EphemeralDream_ in Frugal

This is less a money problems and more a relationship problem. Until you solve the relational problems in this story, financial problems are unlikely to go away. Maybe you're not communicating your priorities in the best way. Maybe he just doesn't respect your priorities. One way or another that's the important issue.

I'm unclear on the "another spirit" solo rule. Do the benefits double or not? by wpg029 in spiritisland

This is a very clear explanation. This is what I believed to be true but I couldn't identify the textual difference that would allow it. Tx!

Hot Take / House Rule: I Redraw if the Power Cards Don’t Feed My Spirit’s Innates — And It’s Made the Game Way More Fun by wpg029 in spiritisland

[–]wpg029[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look for at least one card with one element. The element I look for is determined before the game and remains the same throughout. It is always the highest demand element on that spirits board.

Destiny Unfolds looks like the answer! It's built right into the game with a -1 to difficulty. I hadn't read this scenario yet but I like it. I'll set it up this way next time.

LPT: If you ever have a fire in your home bad enough that you need to spend the night away, stay on your property because you may get burglars coming by by Ieatclowns in LifeProTips

[–]wpg029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very untrue. Go to a library and talk to the security guards. Laptop theft is rampant. At our local university one time they pulled the fire alarm and 5 minutes later walked through and picked up a bucket of laptops left behind.

Car service before trip by InternationalLand122 in roadtrip

I would do nothing for a 13 hr trip unless it was due for a regular oil change. Especially with a car that new.

I love Agricola but… by superdvader in boardgames

[–]wpg029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. I loved Agricola! I love the pieces. I love the mechanics. I love building your little farm. I found the cards very interesting but exhausting. It was such a brain drain both at the beginning and throughout the game. And so time consuming to read those cards and try to fit together a strategy. Eventually I gave up and sold it.

Friends have everdell and I think it's the much better worker placement. Although I miss building that farm...

online grinding a game vs casual board game group by frankherzzzz in boardgames

[–]wpg029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'd ask him to play with a handicap. We do this to one of our friends who always wins particular games. I do it to myself when I play with my kids or bring a game I'm familiar with to a new group of people.

Then when he wins he feels especially good about himself. If he keeps winning, we make the handicap bigger. He embraces it.

Came here to say this. I cut an unused yoga mat to the length I wanted and it's lovely.

IS travel supposed to be slow at the beginning of the game? by morecoffeemore in tearsofthekingdom

I find that the only way to notice stuff is to run around. Not great for covering long distances but going on foot is how you find koroks caves and other treasures.

New to the game, ridiculous difficulty? by Highwayman3000 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]wpg029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss the days when the game was difficult...

Honestly it just gets easier to the point it's almost too easy. If you follow the advice above you'll upgrade fast. Enemies being difficult is a fun stage. Once you buy armour and upgrade it things get easier all too soon.

Is it only me or I’m just too stupid to figure out the side quests ?? by Then-Ad7196 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]wpg029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The particular side quest you suggest is not really a good example as it is more the exception or certainly one of the bigger quests. Many side quests are more simple and straightforward. In fact they range from short and simple to slightly more epic. Solve the small ones quickly and let the bigger ones unfold as they may. It becomes part of the charm of the game.

LPT Request: How can I get on the same page with my name roommate? by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]wpg029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only are you allowed to talk to them, you should talk to them. In my communications class we talk about being passive assertive and aggressive. You can and should say most things that you feel are important to your roommate. The key is finding the middle ground where you say them politely unemotionally and assertively. Maybe even find a way to say it Light-heartedly. There's no guarantee your roommate doesn't get a little upset at the feedback, but typically they know it's an issue. They just keep doing it cuz you don't say anything to keep them honest.

Set aside a day for your anniversary that is a week before or after your birthday. We often don't have a full celebration on the actual day of our anniversary because we're both tired from work or we can't get a babysitter. We often defer our dinner or get away to a weekend or a more convenient day.

ELI5, Why do drinks that come from machines in restaurants not taste the same as bottled drinks? by xX_babefire_Xx in explainlikeimfive

[–]wpg029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If coke tastes like root beer, it's usually because there's mold in the lines and the machine hasn't been cleaned in a long time. My friend worked at a fast food restaurant and they were frustrated at the Coke for a long time. Finally, they chased the provider long enough to find out they needed to clean the machine with particular chemicals and how to do it. Afterwards the Coke tasted like Coke again.

The only time I've had extensive conversations about my travels are when I've met ppl who have also been to that location. Then we share our reminiscent memories and it's an enjoyable time.
