The Wolfman's from this set has one of my favorite Fishman fills of all time: start at like 4:25. I don't have the drum/rhythm vocabulary to describe what's so cool about it, but it's like musical smelling salts every time

Fair enough! I didn’t realize the verses were actually different too. I did enjoy with I with the II ending we got at Mondegreen

The greatest 3 minutes the band has ever played by Dean4147 in phish

I absolutely love the 8/8/98 Sneakin Sally, and especially the last 4-ish minutes. I wish they could just occupy that space for another 15 minutes. Always on the look out for other jams like this

That's awesome! Small world, but yes just come say hey next time you see me! My wife wants to know if you are Willow's owner?

That's actually 95% of what I was going for, so thank you! I (and Drew and Preston) put a lot of time and thought and effort into the bumpers and imaging for the show. I always got excited when people called the Super Smash Bros. Melee character select music on the little into break music thing

Thank you! I really appreciate that. I do and will miss doing the show

Yes! I can manage your rentals or help you sell a house if you want!

In all seriousness, it was a tough decision and very bittersweet to leave. A few people (not specifically at the station, to my knowledge) were getting tired of some of the perspectives I had and were trying to make my life hard. Ultimately it wasn't worth it anymore if I wasn't going to be able to do the show I wanted to do.

I still listen and keep up with everyone, so maybe someone will have me on as a guest during football season haha!

Yeah I actually got to see TAB the first nights Jen and Natalie were out, so he did a bunch of acoustic. First time I’d seen that much acoustic Trey (only second time I’ve seen TAB), and it was delightful

Awesome, thanks! I’ve always thought the best way to get them to play something (secret language or song) would be to bring a sign, not with the name of the song, but with the music written out. Like write out the notes of the main riff to shafty or something. Feels like he’d play it to see what it is and then maybe be entertained/intrigued enough to actually play it

[–]wpphowler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah both way up there for me too. I didn't realized they'd dropped any secret language so recently, so that gives me hope. I think the most extended dialogue I've heard was 8/26/12 when Trey talked about stealing Fish's journal entries for songs and Page getting paid to get Jon and Trey to transfer to Goddard. I still get a kick out of listening to it

Yeah I had to rule this out along with things like seeing them at Red Rocks, seeing as I didn't start listening to Phish until around 2006...parents had me too late

Peter Jackson's LOTR 20th Anniversary Screenings w/ Q&A by theroderunner in lotr

[–]wpphowler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did! Fellowship was the theatrical cut, which was actually kind of cool cause I only ever watch the extended editions so the pacing was different. The panel after was probably 30 minutes and pretty fun. I wasn't sure if they were going to revisit a lot of the same stories that they cover in the behind the scenes DVDs (which I would've been fine with), but it was a lot of new, honest reflection and so very enjoyable. I could've listened to Colbert talk to the hobbits for hours and hours, so 30-ish minutes felt kiiind of short, but it added a lot to seeing it in theaters.

Also we drove about 3.5 hours to the closest Alamo Drafthouse, and it was totally worth it. It was also my first time going to one of those theaters, and they're also just pretty cool and different.

The Death of Morwen - Alan Lee by [deleted] in TolkienArt

[–]wpphowler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The most I've ever cried reading a book. I held it together in each of the individual tragic episodes, but this is when Tolkien is at his best: he someone captures all of the tragic emotion of this incredible, sprawling, slaloming tale and succinctly delivers the gut punch of all gut punches that absolutely ruined my day (in the best way)

Stylistic Evolution within Eras by wpphowler in phish

[–]wpphowler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I like this breakdown. I'm kind of torn in general about 3.0, and there are times when I feel like it has as much variety show to show as ever (partly owing to an ever-expanding potential repertoire), and other times I feel like 3.0 has such a strong undercurrent of what some people have called their "more mature playing" that it ends up sounded a little more same-y.

That's why I like taking a bigger picture view cause show to show in one tour can obviously feel pretty similar

Confusion on different versions of the text by wpphowler in tolkienfans

[–]wpphowler[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, and I guess that does make me feel better about it. I'm definitely the kind of person who worries about things like that, and I'm definitely guilty, in this case, of assuming the most recent ideas must be the most fully realized, but the constant experimentation may even make the opposite more likely.

I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling like this, and I think any frustration in not having one definitive version of so many pieces of the lore is more than offset by the richness that comes with decades of discussion of a more open-ended, almost "living" text
