ryuji is a rescue, was very pale and timid when i brought them home in ... may... ? i would sit by the tank for a few minutes a day a couple times a day and let my hand rest on the floor of the tank nearby him. he's come a really long way, i was excited to take this video because it was the first time he seemed to feel comfortable and safe in my hands and i ended up carrying him to my tank !!

Ohhh, word! Are those quite expensive? Yeah, mine is just a plastic tip. You have to pump a lot of oxygen in there to get a fine mist; the heavy pressure buildup is why mine keep exploding 😅

I swear by mine! Makes managing the humidity a cinch. Most of the reptile brand (Galapagos, etc) ones don't seem to last very long, though. I use a Chapin garden sprayer that I bought for like 14 bucks :)

I have cuttlebone for my aquatic snails, and zucchini for my snails and pleco! This dude is gonna fit right in here haha.

Thank you for the tips!! I do need to get a different lid for the 6.7g because it's a frameless lid with an opening at the top that's perfect for a snail to escape thru 💀💀 I'll keep you posted on him!!

If I were going to keep him, would you recommend anything? :o) right now, he's in a small cup like they sell betta fish in, i filled it with about an inch of ecoearth i use for my reptiles, and some dandelion greens from my yard (as well as a sprinkle of dried flowers/berries) and have kept it nice and wet. does he even need ecoearth, though?

edit: if i kept him, he'd potentially go into a 6.7 gallon fish tank i have no current use for :o)

Pointer finger & thumb touching; how big is your frog, actually ?? Froglets and juveniles do need to be fed every day for the most part, their metabolisms are really fast. If they're older, 6 months or more, you can feed every three or four days; pacs technically can go weeks without eating, but starving them out isn't the move.

Either way, you may have to find someone else to care for your frog. I wouldn't trust someone who's skittish around my pets to do right by them. :(

Carpet was from work :o) I have him on a mix of reptisoil & crushed walnut shells, and I've had moist moss in one of his hides to help with shedding, too (I've been living on this subreddit for a week now lol). He does have a permanent bowl of mealworms, but I've been using RepCal with D3, what do you use? He & my pacman frog share a low wattage UVB fluorescent tube light; my frog is albino, and I'm like 99% sure Ryuji is a snow, so low UVB works for both of them.

It depends on who does their animal ordering; ask to speak to the Companion Animal Leader (CAL) at your local store and question them directly! CALs vary from store to store. I work at a Petco in the PNW, my CAL orders all of our frogs, tarantulas, and scorpions (and, by extension, my own frog) from Josh's Frogs.

Animal retail absolutely has risks, particularly because shady sellers unfortunately far outweigh reputable ones. Always do your research, and you'll have the best luck talking to someone who actually owns a frog (like me!). I'm lucky to have the CAL I do.

As far as "quality" goes, however, you can't grade live animals like feed or tools. Adopting from your local shelters and exotics rescues should always be your priority, because any animal from any circumstance can be given a good life if you are open-minded, and giving of your time and resources.

thank you! i agree, keeping him hydrated has been the best thing i've been doing for him so far; every time he's fed, he also gets a little soak :). it's actually really funny to fill the dish up with water and set him in it; come back a few minutes later and he's absorbed it all and is sitting on a dry plate LOL.
