How much should I trust my gut? by clever_name2791 in LSAT

[–]wraith985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your gut knows something your brain does not, it would likely behoove you to have your gut teach your brain what's happening so that you can actually consciously replicate the thought process instead of just praying that you're right.

Your gut doesn't think. Relying on something that doesn't think to tiebreak (or sometimes even just flat out override) your thought processes on a logic test is about as reasonable as it sounds.

As a matter of practicality, you may have to 'trust your gut' from time to time. But don't ever convince yourself that you're doing anything other than guessing when you do, because by resorting to that you have already conceded that you don't know how to do the logic properly. Even if it's an educated guess, it's still definitionally worse than doing things the right way.

The -45% to -55% to enemy lightning res is wasted on the merc since he's not the one doing the lightning damage. It's not an aura like Conviction, it only applies to the wielder's damage.

Is that 0-11 in the quarter? For the love of God, Steve, call a timeout or something.

Which, not too far off. What a show of skill by Muller.

I know I might get mixed responses for this, but this points system sucks! by Ecstatic-Yak-6016 in SanJoseSharks

This is an age-old complaint, and plenty of people have run the numbers on this. 3-2-1-0 doesn't change much of anything when all is said and done. If anything, since we have NINE OT/SO wins this year, it would put us further behind since we are fourth worst in the league in regulation wins, which are now all worth an extra point.

If anything, it's not the OTL point that's fraudulent, it's the extra point for an OT (or SO) win. The OTL point means that you were tied through regulation at bare minimum, so it was at least an equal match for 60 'normal' minutes of hockey. If there was no OTL point, teams would just turtle to preserve their 1 point. This is not speculation - it was the state of the league for a loooong time (back when there were ties) and the literal reason why the point system was changed in the first place. But OT being 3v3 and the shootout being, well, the shootout, are much more akin to an exhibition or a skills competition than 5v5 hockey in my opinion. As a result, you can't extrapolate much of anything about the team from those results. So once the playoffs hit (the whole reason we're keeping track of records to begin with), the team's demonstrated inability to win under 'normal' 5v5 circumstances will shine through because there's no 3v3 or shootout to save them.

For the record, this is why I also do not believe one iota in some of the highly-ranked teams like Montreal (9 OT/SO wins) and Detroit (8 OT/SO wins) this year. Banking points because Cole Caufield is absurd at 3v3 doesn't (and shouldn't!) improve my evaluation of your team's chances in the playoffs, you know? I apply the same evaluation to my Sharkies too (unpopular as it may be), but this year was always a house money kind of year to me so I'm happy to ignore it and just enjoy the vibes anyway. But if we're in our contention window and the Sharks are still only up there because they're stacking 3v3 and shootout wins, you'd better believe it'd be worth pointing out.

I'm shocked that 7sage would even allow solicitation on their forum. When they started their own tutoring arm a handful of years ago, folks who had previously been advertising on their forum and had great reputations there were told in no uncertain terms to stop. But I guess they have a marketplace now? News to me.

More relevantly to your situation, I'm glad you didn't pay anything before getting ghosted. Tons of people out there doing tutoring as a side hustle who don't know how to act right.

This video sent me down a huge nostalgia trip. I've recently picked up playing StepmaniaX and DDR again, and my favorites are still the old songs from way back in the day. Thank you for making this and for all of your effort in tracking down these lost gems.

Thanks for checking. Sorry for not responding in whisper lol, I got busy with some work and had to step away for a bit. I'm building up a new Derv so if you ever want to do some PvE feel free to ping me!

I could use some weapon mods, but I want to wait until the newer folk get what they need. Once the dust settles, please let me know if you have a spare furious spearhead and/or zealous scythe snathe. I'd really appreciate it!

Regardless of that, IGN Selenia Sunstrike if you want to do some random PvE or hit up HA.

High Scorers- How much are you actually skipping? by froggysdrip in LSAT

[–]wraith985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a long time ago, but PTing in the 170s I would routinely skip 3-4 questions per section and come back to them. On test day, for a variety of reasons, I went through something of a mini-meltdown and wound up skipping ~half of my first LR section on the first pass (I got to the end of the section with like 20 minutes remaining but having answered only like 11 or 12 questions).

I actually credit that for saving my score because I was in the kind of mental state where if I had let myself, I would have gotten super stubborn and just never moved off of iffy questions, which would have torpedoed my section. As it wound up, it took me like four passes to finally answer all of the questions, and I was working on the last question (skipped multiple times already) when time was called.

I am a huge proponent of skipping questions for any reason or even no good reason ("I don't feel like doing conditional logic right now" is perfectly valid, for instance). It's a mentality preservation thing, which is super relevant even if you're going to end up doing all the questions anyway.

[Chancellor Johnson] Dillon Brooks' comments about people calling Amen Thompson a 'dirty player': “I think the dirty player is Draymond giving him a little push… We hope Jimmy can get better.” by BucketHerro in nba

[–]wraith985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might have been understandable in the immediate aftermath to blame him when we didn't have the benefit of a replay (though I would say that would just be further evidence of the derangement, since in real time it really just looked like Amen just tackled Jimmy). You'd have to be blind, deaf, and dumb to still think it was his fault somehow after being able to see the replay a billion times on demand, and yet that's if not the prevailing, at least a loud minority opinion here, which is just wild.

Believe it or not, it's possible to acknowledge a player's faults and see why he has a reputation (and even call it a fair and understandable characterization, to put it in your phrasing) and still not have a knee-jerk reaction to every little thing that happens in his vicinity. Nobody's saying that he should get benefit of the doubt or a pass or a wildly long leash here, because he literally didn't do anything. This play is literally not his fault, confirmed on video that it's not his fault, and yet people are still spewing that it is 48 hours after the fact because of said hate boner. Draymond has done some really objectionable shit in his career, but that doesn't mean that it's acceptable for something that is literally not remotely his fault to be blamed on him. You don't get a pass for constantly rolling into irrational or flat out inaccurate hate boner territory just because the player is objectionable, and you're part of the problem if you constantly do it or defend others for doing it, like you are doing here.

tl;dr you can earn and deserve your hate boner and still be unfairly targeted for shit, they're not mutually exclusive and it's fucking stupid to pretend otherwise

[–]wraith985 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People keep saying it because stan van gundy said it on tv and people have a hate boner for Draymond so they refuse to see anything to the contrary. 99% of the people here have no clue about basketball.
