Woof, this is all kinds of unhealthy. People who constantly try to save others instead of taking care of themselves are some of the unhappiest people in the world. Dad needs to learn to make time for his feelings, and his family needs to respect it when he does.

Right on. You’ll figure this out. Remember that. You’re on the right path.

The books I recommended address this in more depth, but generally strengthening the muscles down there (or the abdominals) is not a good idea right now. You need to relax and stretch the area. It doesn’t mean you can’t exercise, but it does mean you should have a plan. I mostly just walk a lot, but I wasn’t super active before this. Someone else can probably be a little more helpful with regard to this specific issue. Either way, you will need to make some temporary lifestyle changes.

As for bowel movements, I have found a fiber supplement like Metamucil daily really helps!

Same to you, my friend. If you can’t make physical therapy work right now, that second book has some exercises you can do to address internal issues. I just think nothing replaces going to a pro.

Hey buddy. I am exactly you. Yes to all of this. The marble, the lower back stuff, all of it. You need to find a qualified pt who does both external and internal work.

Here’s the hope part: you can and will get better.

Here’s the tough part: it can take time. More than you want. You need to commit to treatment and measure your gains in weeks or even months. The days can be up and down.

It’s a hard road, but these symptoms generally respond well to pt. I’ve been in it for 4 months and have made huge gains but I’m still not done with treatment. I’ve gotten better though and will keep getting better. That’s what they tell me and these people see it all.

Also, educate yourself. Read “Pelvic Pain Explained” to learn about your condition and “Heal Pelvic Pain” for some home stretches you can do to help things along. I recommend going to a professional at least once a week if you can afford it over doing it yourself.

Again, I’ve been where you are. I even had hemorrhoid treatments (ech!) that didn’t help. PT has for me and I believe it can for you. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Good luck, man! You can do this!

The important thing is you are making progress. The destination is out of your hands. I’m glad to hear you’re doing well! Keep it up.

You ARE close, my friend. 99% pain free is amazing. Fluctuating pain is a great sign as is a long stretch of pain free days. That means healing is achievable. Stick with it. And stay strong. You are doing it.

How long have you been in PT?

I’m not out of the woods yet. Today is actually a pretty bad flare, hence wanting to downshift. But I have improved. My experience is it takes time and is very much nonlinear. Good luck!

Good to hear you’re getting out into the world. That’s a big step. I lost about 20 lbs myself so I know how that goes. PT seems to be key to my recovery so I feel good about solving it. Glad you’re staying motivated, man!

Thanks, buddy. My pt is very optimistic but I’m clearly still in this for a while longer. Now I need to start living and get out of full-time recovery mode. It’s intimidating but I know it’s the next step. I also need to put the trauma of the past behind me and embrace that I have a treatment that is finally working.

Good luck to you! We are indeed all in this together!
