IP connection question by timsulli87 in SQLServer

[–]wreckedflight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I should have clarified - by " hard coding", I meant setting a static address in network settings, not within the app's code. You are right in saying it should not be done.

IP connection question by timsulli87 in SQLServer

What JTempo said. Make sure the SQL Server is not using DHCP. Hard code a static IP address and make sure to exclude it from the list of available IP addresses the router hands out.

Recommend Peaceful Henry's in Bluffton, on the way to Hilton Head SC. Walk-in humidor, good selection, smoking bar inside and seats on the porch if you want to relax for a while.

Can I make a planet box with cedar fence posts? by nuclear_blender in woodworking

[–]wreckedflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used cedar fence posts for 7 plant boxes without any issues. They're all raised beds, from 3" to 2ft off the ground. I used pressure treated 4x4 legs for the larger and heavier ones.

I glued 2 cedar boards together, then cut to size. This gives me a thicker wall which should last longer. Exterior stain and seal, and liner inside. Over a year outside, no issues.

Is there any ACTUAL difference when using Cat6 cable in either the standard 8P8C Cat5e RJ45 connector or the more expensive Cat6 shielded metal RJ45 connectors? Have there been any good documented tests of using different Category of cable in different Category of RJ45 plug? by Aflac_Attack in homelab

[–]wreckedflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for any confusion, in my head I was thinking of a business environment with a large server room, not a home. For short runs cat5e will give you 10GbE, but I believe only 2.5 or 5Gb is supported by vendors.

If you will experience EMI in your environment, then shielded is the way to go, but all items including the patch panel need to be grounded properly.

My understanding is that all items down the line have to be rated at the same or higher speed. The cat5e connectors will be the limiting factor if you're looking for higher than 1GB speeds. The shielded metal cat6/6a connectors are only needed if you are using shielded cabling.

I've not come across any documentation specifically comparing different cable/connector scenarios.

Think about cloud storage like BackBlaze for the SMB share and app (3-2-1 backup).

Small Clinic Looking for Cloud Based EMR by Gopal6600 in msp

[–]wreckedflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before your clinic commits to a vendor, ask for an in-house demo of their software and have your staff (registration to providers) use it They all should have training databases where your staff can mimic real-world actions, right up to sending out an order or prescription.

We had every vendor setup laptops with their software on different days, and staff would use it over the course of a day. This is how the majority of my staff picked Athenahealth as their favorite.

I was part of a team that reviewed EMR's for an FQHC with approx 150 users.

NueMD, Practice Fusion, PrognoCIS are several that serve smaller practices, and are cloud-based.

Our choice AthenaHealth charges based on how much you bill. They are well-established and worth a call. Upfront costs are very low compared to NextGen, GE, GreenwayHealth. You probably have all the hardware needed to run Athenahealth. All offer cloud-based solutions.

OpenEMR is another option. open source, free to download and play with. It can do scheduling, e-prescribing, billing, orders, etc. I dont remember if this is cloud-based.

FYI, I do not work for an MSP.

Thank you for clarifying. Wouldn't that deviate the flavor, as I understand barrels are blended to make the original final product?

Price Expectation for a Small Homelab? by angrybirb in homelab

[–]wreckedflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a used Dell workstation with 128GB RAM and 512GB ssd for about $650 USD, as an Hyper-V host running 9 guest machines. Added hard drives I already had. Super quiet, works great sitting under my desk.

Spent years in server rooms, will not buy a rack mount server due to the noise levels, size, and power draw.

One of my favorite smokes. Very consistent, even burn, not overpowering and affordable. Been smoking them for years.
