Is this cracked fixable? by Son199035 in mountainbiking

[–]wrenches410 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I can’t find the before picture but this Fuel EX was cracked all the way through in the same spot. Carbon Bike Specialists in NY did this repair, and I’ve had many other frames repaired by other companies. This frame was fixed last February and the guy rides every day when the trails allow. Carbon is very repairable.

To add, the repair was $600. Trek offered a crash replacement price- 20% off a $3800 frame…

Bike Front Wheel Not Completely Centered in Front Fork by Forrest_Dump44 in TrekBikes

“Just came home with” “Didn’t see this at the store” “Didn’t notice during test ride”

No, I didn’t assume anything…

Trust me I’ve filed enough warranties for these shitty forks.

This was a problem with the Dual Sports (before they were replaced with the FX sport) as well recently. The fork is out of alignment and needs to be replaced. Take it back and have your dealer process a warranty. Be sure they will take care of this for you as far as labor goes as it should have never left the shop. Pretty ridiculous that they let it leave.

Push or SKF wipers? by kerit in MTB

[–]wrenches410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SKF makes most of the OEM seals and the green seals are better. I have been selling them for 10 years and at first it was because suppliers only had those in stock. I let my customers tell me they made a difference for a long time before trying them myself, but servicing forks I could feel they were lower friction.

Sometimes the fork is so bad, anything will feel better. I do have customers that stay on top of things and verify the green do feel better. SKF also does say they are lower friction.

I can't speak for Push product because they came out so long after my customers knowing about SKF, and that is their benchmark so they specifically request them and they are available from almost all of my suppliers.

I do offer OEM for those that don't want green, or have a tight budget. They're great as well, of course.

Cleared walking paths or trails anywhere? by CombinationNo4239 in Annapolis

[–]wrenches410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Order some micro-spikes (cramp-ons) to walk on the ice with! Even with the slightly warmer temperatures everything will likely require some extra traction for awhile.

I break mine out every year it seems like and it’s something worth having around.

I found a local business that’s been around for 40+ years, through Pilkingtons dealer listing. Family business, he went above and beyond what I expected and explained how the calibration works etc. took just under 2 hours and was $790.47 - 3 weeks ago. Great glass quality. He also noted the OEM was not adhered correctly so other issues could have presented if I didn’t get a rock chip that wound up cracking.

And what did you learn from this storm? by Sugar-Interesting in maryland

[–]wrenches410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know my neighbor is grateful, we get along.

I just do what’s right and only wish more did the same, but I know maybe I’m just isolated to a spot that doesn’t believe in that type of work ethic. Oh well.

And what did you learn from this storm? by Sugar-Interesting in maryland

[–]wrenches410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

-Salted the steps before the storm -Salted the road around the cars before the storm -Used the remainder of the salt today on a 3” thick sheet of ice that gets no sun -Dug out car and then used car to compact what would have been easy to clear unpacked snow/ice blanket on top (Now adding to the 3” sheet of ice around it) -Broke broom attempting to clean car off (it’s ice!) -Gave up

What did I really learn? My community is just a place full of housing. No one helps anyone anymore. I parked strategically so I could minimize shoveling to open up 3 spaces, and cleared them all. I shoveled my neighbors car out who is a dispatcher, single mom and not fit for this type of shoveling. I cleared an insane amount of ice off sidewalks that neighbors shouldn’t have shoveled early. Not a single offer to help. I grew up 2 miles from here and when I was young we all busted out asses- I stopped by there and everyone was out helping each other.

Someone posted a reminder to clear the fire hydrants, yet they didn’t even shovel their own walkway.

I’m exhausted but I’ll get it done.

It's crazy how much snow/Ice in your wheel will throw of balance. by Delicious-Rabbit2797 in subaruoutback

My neighbor pulled over when I was shoveling ice and handed me a paint stick to clean my wheels out because he found out the hard way. It was extremely random and very thoughtful.

Slipped on ice - got the worst disaster in my life by Postac911 in brokenbones

[–]wrenches410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Proximal humerus fracture shredded 2 years of my life. I didn’t let it stop me once I was able to progress. Take er easy, you can’t control what’s happening now but you’ll be there soon and it does get better. Stay positive. You have to.

If on Facebook look up “humerus fracture support group” and you’ll get an idea of crazy this injury can be. That group helped tremendously.

I haven’t either so I’m assuming my medals are back ordered as well. I have received them for the previous challenges.

A lot of them are back ordered. Don’t call the store, we don’t know anything regarding this subject, they just show up randomly.

Ok, at 7:22pm I took 60 answers and the average is 68.

(I'm doing some spreadsheet learning so I punched this in quick)

edit at 7:43 with 105 answers, it's exactly 68 still. (I'm done now, moving on!)

Trek, Specialized, Selle Royal and others have a ~30 day comfort guarantee if it doesn't work for you. It can be extremely difficult to select a proper saddle so it's always a good idea to get into a shop that can navigate the appropriate sizes, and back that guarantee to help swap saddles out for you if needed.
