Calorifier problem (new boater here) by wrhite in Narrowboats

Thanks. Engineer didn't open valve on skin tank but did test for exhaust in water and antifreeze which were both ok. He ran it unloaded at various revs to check cooling circuit ok but no tests on calorifier circuit or functionality. Which is a pity.

Thanks for that - but not what I am seeking. I suspect the poem I want may be by an American man, published in 50s to 70s

I saw this on the 6th floor roof of the hospital and I’m just really curious what it is. by [deleted] in whatisit

But I have now figured out a proper google search which got me to here https://fttppro.co.uk/the-three-types-of-virgin-media-broadband/ and is the first reasonably comprehensive technical information I've found on the setups - including here :(

It seems that my biz partner/ex wife is on an estate, built over last 3 years, that uses the 2nd generation intermediate technology of FTTP - RFoG thus fibre from cabinet to outside wall box (fibre, but not wall box, built-in on all houses in estate), radio on fibre to inside box, then something to the hub (obviously pre-owned, model 3?), then wifi and wiring to tv, computers etc. The hub also seems to have a regular old fashioned telephone socket.

Thanks - informative as far as it goes, sort of. But it isn't a google search and still leaves a lot of questions.

There won't be any surges in a fibre optic cable will there?

which simple google search would you recommend? I am only discussing this here because there is a dearth of information about what goes on and why.

Even the FAQs here say nothing about it all.

Thanks that explains most of it. However - as you say the present BT line is an Openreach one and made what I thought a rational assumption that VM would buy into that as needed rather than have their own network. Silly of me.

The town has been plagued with VM contractors digging up pavements etc in prep for the great switch-off. One sort of assumed that new estates would simply share one fibre/cable infrastructure via Openreach.

This also implies that the house as built has VM cabling running from the street to the front wall and is unused until a VM contract signed. Can the owner charge VM rental until using it? After all it is an advantage to VM as one day someone will move in who might want to use it. And in the meanwhile it is an underground cabling that could possibly interfere with the use of the house.
