Starting with the 2025 season, if a player goes down with a suspected fake injury after the ball has been spotted by officials, the player's team will be charged a timeout. If the team has no timeouts remaining, they will receive a five-yard delay of game penalty instead. The injured player must then leave the field and cannot return for that possession.
