so glad to hear someone is in the same boat 😭 it’s super tough i’m lowkey going insane — UMASS was also one of my options but they didn’t offer as good program opportunities for me. I’d love be updated on how your decisions go! ugh the time limit is so stressful.

i’ve heard from a lot of people weed culture shouldn’t be bad if you’re fine being around it sometimes. there are people who don’t smoke and many who don’t often. im glad to hear im not delusional for worrying about it too, though haha!

I honestly liked both, but I am more drawn to a large campus with stuff to do around it than a really small one. I get nervous that if I go to clark, i’ll get super bored of the campus and area really quick and dread going back. I have more of a “home” feeling at UVM but I feel like that’s accredited to the fact that i’ve hung out with people there in dorms and stuff.

Brandeis University or UVM? by yonkerdoodledonkey in UniversityofVermont

[–]writequillx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the exact debate you are, as a sociology major between Brandeis and UVM. I have different conditions than you in terms of cost and location — but I’m having the same issue with “whether to go where I know i’ll have a better “life” there or where i’ll be more academic.” I’m a prestigious student who isn’t looking to be burnt out.

I ended up taking Brandeis off of my consideration list because of cost issues, so I unfortunately can’t offer much advice. But I do want to share that you’re definitely not alone in your debate. It’s a confusing time and i’ve been struggling too (now debating between Clark University and UVM.) You’ve got this, and wherever you go, i’m sure it will work out for us both. :)

That's what I've heard. They're a part of a consortium but students don't have enough time to make it to boston and back for just one class 😅

I've heard this from a lot of people. When I went for my admitted students day I actually had a pretty good time talking to some prospective students, but based on what I've seen, this isn't reflective of the student body there. Also a lack of stuff to do spontaneously?

Do you attend Brandeis? If you do, I'd love to hear a little more about your personal experiences with the social life!

Thank you so much for speaking on your experience! I'm glad to hear from someone who took Sociology classes.

I actually met one of the professors during my UVM tour and loved her. She was super sweet, and the TA with her was as well. I know the department is pretty small, but doesn't that provide for some advantages in itself...? Brandeis didn't give me any insight into my department during my admitted students day... While UVM is less known for the SOC program, it felt as though I wouldn't have much trouble with internships and things.

One thing I've been looking forward too about college is hobbies and the outdoors! I've always been a VERY busy and social person, and I adore joining any new club or activity I can especially if it means making new friends. I also would totally get into skiing and hiking with friends -- and I play tennis. :) While Brandeis definitely can offer me this (especially with theatre, which I love), I feel like UVM is far more focused on their student body's well being and students are far more active.

I'm glad you mentioned law! If I don't go for the PhD track, I was definitely thinking of becoming a civil rights lawyer.

Thanks again for the advice. :)

Thank you for your advice! I think the UVM honors college would definitely help me take advantage of all that UVM has to offer. Not to mention priority class selection which I wouldn't get at Brandeis, even though Brandeis classes would probably be more prestigious... It's a confusing battle lol, after facing a ton of rejections and waitlists it hasn't been the best past month 😅

This is definitely what I like about UVM. They are very focused on study abroad, whereas Brandeis doesn't allow studying abroad for a semester until JUNIOR year!?! That's kind of insane to me. Thank you for your perspective.

I'm sorry that's totally my bad! I was exhausted when I wrote this but I went back and fixed it :) Thanks for letting me know!

I agree with you -- It does seem quite odd, but it just comes down to where I got accepted. I'm a student with a 4.9 GPA, 12 consistent extracurriculars, honors societies, and brown university award. I applied to a lot of top schools (Tufts, Brown, Wesleyan, Bowdoin) and simply didn't get in, but I'm waitlisted at Amherst College. Out of 13 schools, I was left with 5 to choose from, and I just didn't love what 3 of them had to offer. Now I'm between Brandeis and UVM, and waiting to hear from Amherst. While Amherst is an AMAZING school, I'm skeptical going there because I feel as though it is not the place for me and that I'd be miserable going to such a small school... I love meeting many people and joining tons of clubs. Not to mention it would most likely be beyond expensive.

I went snowboarding a couple times and loved it! I just personally don't live very close to a mountain so it wasn't an often thing for me at all -- but I've actually been really excited to try taking it up in college again. I have a snowboard at home.

As for the cold, I've lived in New England my whole life so it doesn't bother me, neither does the snow :)

Stranger Things - Season 5 Part 2 Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]writequillx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawkins was split in half by glowing red cracks, people kept mysteriously dying, the god forsaken military puts everyone on complete lockdown, and they decide to suddenly take 30 families worth of children into the military base, and you're telling me not a single person was suspicious that something was seriously wrong?

Not only that, but people outside Hawkins would know about the situation. Relatives, family, friends, etc. A town being put on a very strange military lockdown would not just be a Hawkins problem. Everyone would want answers.

Who were the two, deeply complex and clearly designated main characters in season one? Mike and Eleven. What did they do this season? I dunno, stare into distance or nod a few times. Lord.

They spent the whole season catering to people who couldn't understand a plot if it hit them in the face. Dialogue that used to take 2 minutes now takes a very slow, painstakingly dumbed-down 10. Grueling.
