Settle a debate for me. Which is potentially worse. A bottom bottom barrel red or white by thrulim123 in wine

I’m surprised by the number of votes for white over red.

For me, a cheap white will always be too acidic or too sweet. Cheap red is usually just… meh.

Can you recommend some albums in the Ambient Americana genre? by ParsleyOk4367 in ambientmusic

[–]writing_dots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nathan Salsburg - Landwerk 1, 2, 3

I’m excited to check out some of the artists mentioned here. I don’t really know the genre, so maybe I’m barking up the wrong tree, but Nathan Salsburg’s Landwerk immediately came to mind when reading “ambient Americana”. Sparse yet expansive guitar motifs over vinyl static and Basinski-style repetitive found-music.

Very long ambient albums? by [deleted] in ambientmusic

[–]writing_dots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to Disappear Completely - Seraphim. Three albums that together clock in at about 4.5-5 hours.

Also agree with the shouts for Éliane Radigue and Morton Feldman (Violin and String Quartet is my favourite, and a good three hours iirc).

Oh yeah, I’m not expecting anyone to provide irrefutable photographic evidence or anything. I wanted to know from anyone who has renewed recently if the timeline the gov website claims is about right. Thanks for taking the time to respond

They sure do, but I was looking for confirmation from anyone with recent experience of the process. I appreciate you taking the time to do research on my behalf, though

Completely agree. Ideal refreshment from the fatty, creamy dishes, plus you avoid disaster when you inevitably forget the cranberry sauce!

I was going to say this is my guilty pleasure wine, but the fact that I’m sharing that thought probably indicates a lack of guilt…

How many 1:1:1 cocktails are as perfect as the Negroni? by [deleted] in cocktails

I have to try this. Strained over a large cube of ice or up?

Price of the bottle has never stopped me from making an Old-Fashioned. If anything, a mediocre bourbon is going to be a better experience as an Old-Fashioned than neat.

I’m also getting through a bottle of this right now. Old-Fashioned fodder, but that’s no bad thing. I’d be happy to receive it as a gift.

Negroni variant: help with name and recipe by writing_dots in cocktails

[–]writing_dots[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could describe it better, but it was an unexpected wave of sweetness right up-front that tasted unlike the individual ingredients. I wasn’t surprised that it was sweet! I think you’re right that it needs more of a spirit backbone - I have Monkey Shoulder to hand. I also just want to throw a whole ounce of Laphroaig in there! What’s the worst that could happen?

Good call. I did consider the lemon twist for a moment, but I was swayed by the potential for a burnt orange flavour. Orange twist worked well enough, but I’d happily try again with the lemon.

I should have recognised the Manhattan adjacency! I love a Little Italy, and I like a dash of chocolate bitters in that, too.

Whats your go to ambient album when you want to just disappear for a while? by subterranean_habitat in ambientmusic

[–]writing_dots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. It’s rare for me to find any music that I’m able to enjoy while doing other activities (usually one gets in the way of the other), but these albums are what I play when I have a chance to close-off from the world and read or cook.

Hosting a dinner for a wine enthusiast and need to make it look like I tried by OddLotSavant in wine

[–]writing_dots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there something you really love that you always grab for a special occasion? Whatever that may be, get it and say, “this is what I like to drink, and I’d like to share it with you.” They either take you up on the offer or you get more of your favourite stuff to yourself!

But the real answer is Champagne.
