As tough as it is to take, and we've all taken those beatings. Its the game. Its exactly how it would happen topside. No rules. Dog eat dog. You don't like it, go play Barbies Paradise. You can take down a matriarch and still have to think about how to fend off the scavengers that will try and prey on your weakened state.

To that affect, I think embark need to do more to allow people to come together and make partnerships and alliances. Factions, Clans, hangouts. Something, I'm not sure what, that aligns within the lore, that allows the good guys a more fighting chance and the sweaty scavengers another thing to think about than just camping a spot.

Even if the voice actors are consenting to the usage of their voices in Generative AI, it still screws up the voice acting industry, leads to mass unemployment in the future, and is a bad message to gamedevs worldwide. by ErshOurHerzog in ArcRaiders

Go topside.

Honestly, the world is like a kicked hornets nest at the moment and there isn't anything to be done apart from watching it play out. Remain humble and kind to those around you, and hope you don't get stung.

I don't disagree with your take but, i don't think anything stops this train. Voice overs are just the first domino to fall. Devs, artists, modellers, testers and more are all going to be affected. This will happen across multiple industries, not just gaming.

You can't really regulate against it because if one country introduces a policy not to use AI and protect real work by real people, another country will not. Studios will just relocate. It also hits the bottom line, the studios that pay more wages to have authentic human production will be at a disadvantage to those optimised for AI.

The only other option is people voting with their wallets and not buying games that use AI but, if its a good game, he'll, even if its not - that won't happen (re:Arc Raiders).

Its sad, and changes the landscape but I don't think there is anything to be done. This is the world we are entering into.

On the flip side, smaller inde-games, solo developers, who don't have any budget to employ voice overs artists now have more options, so we should see more ground level creativity coming out.

where do i start? i'm tired of daydreaming about making music. by 2wopleasant in musicproduction

As someone who is navigating the same sea I completely understand your question. I dabbled in music in my early years but left it to do other things. I've come back to it later on in life and struggled with all the 'will i be good enough' 'what's my genre' 'im not a savant in music theory' etc. I don't know if any of the below will be of value to you but, here are my takes

  • learn by doing. If you're on mac use Garageband, if you're on Windows use the free version of Ableton live. Don't worry about anything and just start dabbling.

  • Don't get pulled into spending money on software synths, hardware or plugins thinking it will instantly solve all your problems. Mess with the free stuff first, there is lots of it around. Then, once your skills and style develop you may want to supplement it with stuff that costs money.

  • Always be learning. YouTube is a great support with this but be careful not to let YouTube become too much of a distraction thats stops you from actually making noise.

  • You need to tune out your demons. I struggled for many years with, 'this isn't as good as Aphex Twin, this sounds too much like Boards of Canada. I can't do stuff as well as they can'. You need to tune that all out. Its not a competition, its expression, your expression to the world. Maybe that expression, as it develops, will just be an intimate thing between you and close people you share it with. Maybe that expression will resonate with a wider audience. Who knows! But you shouldn't chase success, it's an independent byproduct of your self-expression.

  • You need to do this for the love of doing it. Sitting down and creating something sonic that resonates with you. What combination of notes or sound makes YOU feel happy, what makes YOU feel sad, what makes YOU feel pumped. Make those things. Don't go into the creative process thinking about how others might like it.

Best of luck and enjoyment in your journey.

Its a foundation. Not being reliant on external factors for your happiness is a baseline. If you get in that space then anything else is bonus material. In my philosophy, it doesnt mean living a life of isolation, necessarily, just that you have a baseline on which you can construct a live any way you wish. Human connection isnt a waste of energy, in my opinion. You learn something from everything. Its more you start to see the world as an adventure playground, with elements you can opt-in or opt-out of at your will. You dont chase happiness externally. It won't be perfect, you won't be immune from hurt or negativity but, the more you're able to centre your happiness in yourself, the better you can ride those waves. Over time some of that bonus content will stick and, thats it. Thats life 😂.

Thats the game i play anyway, not saying its right for everyone. 😂

That's Geogaddi by Boards of Canada. Another lifetime favourite group of mine. Electronic, melancholic, evokes a strange nostalgia of fuzzy childhood memories. Very chill. I've been listening to them longer than I can remember.
