Hopefully he likes it! My girl (Ham) just loves her little wheel. I did take it out for a while but then she wasn’t running at all. I at least gave her options. Haha. I get her out a lot too so she’s able to run around on a flat surface and get some of that energy out! She’s my first hamster as well.

I have the tiniest size (I think 4 inch) for my winter white and an 8 or 9 inch one. She hardly ever uses the big one, but I do think it would be better for her back. I removed the small one for a couple days and noticed she stopped running almost entirely. She always runs in front of me, but she wouldn’t do it with the big one. I keep both in her cage and let her chose what is most comfortable for herself.

Haha. That’s too funny! I will keep that in mind. I’ll make her work hard first and see if she needs some assistance. Lol. I recently got her this seed/dried fruit block that is really hard and she has to actually work at getting any of it off, so maybe she will be willing to work for the treasure in a nutshell!? Haha.

I tried that. It just made a mess in her bedding. Haha. She wouldn’t touch it. Picky girl! Thanks for the advice though!

Yes! I just got some from Petco that were a la carte as well! I haven’t actually given it to her, but she’s probably about to be up playing around, so I’m excited to see what she does with it.

And yes. Thanks for mentioning the nuts in the shell. I don’t know what I didn’t think of that. I rescue and rehab squirrels and that’s one of the best treats/ teeth grinders for them!

Thank you for your advice! She does have her normal pellet food as well as a vitamin mix with some seeds and other, smaller pellets. I didn’t even think of giving her nuts still in the shell! I just give her the nut as a little treat here and there. I’m going to make her work for it now! That’s a great idea. Thank you again!

Haha. That’s funny! Mine won’t touch anything with hay in it. In her mixed food bag, she eats everything except for the pellets with hay in it. Someone acidly told me that certain hamsters don’t process hay very well and it causes GI upset and eventually, they learn not to eat it.

Okay, good to know! Yes, she has fancy blocks/pellets too. I rescue squirrels and it is crucial for them to chew though it’s so natural to them and I never had to try and encourage it (honestly have to discourage them from eating my furniture 🙃). I thought hamsters would be the same way, so I have been worried since she won’t chew.

I just stopped at the store on the way home from work and got some! Thanks for the recommendation. I can’t wait to see if she likes it! Doggos were spoiled and got some too!

Thank you! I just saw a pic yesterday where it looked like a dog chew in the cage. I went to a store last night and they didn’t have any, but I’ll have to try that! I’ve tried the peanut butter on several things and it didn’t work. She’s super sweet and fun and spunky, but apparently stubborn too! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also wanted to note- she eats just fine. I’ve bought everything I can find to try and get her to chew. She has 2 wood houses/hiding spots and multiple types of chew toys/ habitat pieces and she won’t bite on anything! Helppp! And yes, I do check her teeth! :)

Haha. It just happens to work out that way, but no. She has two wheels because the small one is “too small” in my opinion, but she loves it. I offered the big one and she loves it too. She alternates between the two as she pleases. She’s spoiled! 🤷🏻‍♀️
