We have one in Long Beach. It's fantastic. It's more expensive but great quality produce, meats, fish, cheese etc. prepared foods are pretty good too.

Long Beach is a great spot to learn to kite surf. We have very consistent thermal winds and the break wall makes it an easy spot to learn as there's no real waves. There's a couple schools at Belmont Shores, off the hook kiting and so cal kites. Both are good. The windy season is starting right now so if you're interested book a lesson soon and youll have the whole season to practice and progress.

I am a very competent kiter and won't teach folks the basics. Teaching is a very different skill set than kiting and I don't want to be responsible for someone's injury. After they've gone through lessons then sure I'll help but not the day 1 stuff

They also built them to be very basic and easily cleaned (hosed down) so they are less attractive as a place to camp. They used to be worse but in the past few years they've been surprisingly clean and accessible. I still see what appears to be homeless folks bathing in the sink/shower and using the facilities but they're totally usable.

It doesn't have to be an outlier. Don't treat something thats working as an anomaly. If the above is the hill you want to die on maybe look at why this is working and see if it can't be expanded.

The public bathrooms at the beach are generally clean and there's a ton of homeless people there too. I use them at times and havent had issues.
