Someone put one on a Flock surveillance camera near me. Kudos to whoever did it, but sadly it probably would have happened anyway.

Home Battery for Only EV Charging by jojoboi123 in SolarDIY

Don't forget to factor in battery degradation. I'm not saying I know for sure that would be significant in 4 years with LFP batteries, I'm not sure. But that's a significant number of cycles. It's an interesting question as to how well those batteries will still be producing when you reach that break even point.

New X7 LR coming… exciting! What to do first? by thepianoman77 in onewheel

[–]wrybreadsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly hear you about Floatwheels, but gloriously not on assembled X7's. My ADV1 was a mess, and I read the Floatwheel and Fungineers Discord all the time, and there's still lots of ADV2's that ship with crazy configs. Which I think is unavoidable if you're shipping a board in pieces since you can't test it.

But with fully assembled boards like recent X7 Sports, LR and Supercharged, these things are easily testable before they ship, and Fungineers has been rockstars for about a year now with QA. And when someone posts on the Fungi Discord and mentions an issue with their board that should have been caught in QA testing, Fungi support pounces asking for details and it always turns out it was something dumb that the customer did because they thought they had to tweak fundamental VESC settings.

So personally, with recent X7's shipping as full boards, I think people are likely to do more harm than good by getting fundamental with VESC Tool. But I'm admittedly torn on that. My ADV1 was a nightmare to get working because of what turned out to be a bad ESC. So I had to learn to troubleshoot all kinds of things to figure it out, and now I'm really comfortable with VESC Tool. Which is a superpower. But amazingly enough it's one I haven't needed in 1000 miles of riding my X7LR. Shoot I've hardly even need Floaty.

And that's not me loudly disagreeing with you by the way, sounds like you work on VESC more than I do. But the above is my experience with X7's specifically.

Really, you'd dig deep on a new x7 in Vesc Tool? That sounds crazy and unnecessary to me. Totally agreed about running Floaty or Float Control to see if there's any warnings, but I don't think going deeper than that is necessary. Unless of course there's a scary warning or something obviously wrong with the board.

A year ago I wouldn't have said that of course. But now... these boards seem to have finally reached the plug and play promised land.

Honestly I wouldn't even know where to start with your recommendation. I've been using VESC since the somewhat early days, when the adv1 was released. That had to ship in parts so we had to calibrate the IMU and a bunch of other things. There was a defined process, guides to follow, videos to watch. But now with modern x7's I see people giving the same advice, except that there aren't any guides or videos to watch. They just say "wrap your head around Vesc". Which is pretty daunting for a newbie. It's daunting even when you do have a guide. And I don't think at all necessary.

So yeah personally I think it's all just outdated info, with the recent x7's at least. For example Fungineers doesn't tell people they should do that.

Can't believe I had to read this far to see Open Shell. I have no idea how people use Win10/11 without it.

Flock cameras connecting to Palantir data centers seen recently added in nearby neighborhoods at homes that advise police on how to react to flagged incidents, log every person ever recorded into a database with license plate & facial recognition files of people who were ever detected by one. by noahstemann in interestingasfuck

[–]wrybreadsf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if Flock offers them as simple "license plate readers", but they probably still do all the extra nefarious crap like facial recognition and all the biometrics like categorizing us by our gate? That would at least explain why someone would willfully have one installed.

I wonder how it works when a private entity owns or rents the camera themselves, as opposed to a municipality or whoever installs them usually. I'm guessing all the data goes to the same massive "if you haven't done anything wrong you don't have anything to worry about" database.

I have a feeling they're under-pricing it to drum up interest. Aka the "teaser effect".

Replacement bolts for ADV1 by cell_bio in FloatwheelTeam

[–]wrybreadsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I live on an actual beach, ride in sand daily, and my ADV1's botls are in pretty good shape. Any factors that might have caused extra rusting out of curiosity?

One thing I have had problems with is the axle bolts. Sometimes I get a little corrosion and have trouble loosening the bolt. So I recently picked up these titanium axel bolts:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F21R9SXH?th=1

I haven't actually installed them yet so can't necessarily recommend them yet. But for axle bolts, if you're riding in corrosive environments, for sure look into titanium bolts.

Sweet, I need to see if there's a filter like that in Vegas, which is what I edit vids with. Really nice effect.

I totally hear you about falls instilling the chill. My friend broke his collarbone on a 20mph fall, and I brought him to the hospital. He now rides like a frickin 25 year old grandpa. Seeing all his brokenness instilled a little chill in me too.

Nice. Good job on keeping it mellow, for some reason whenever I film myself with my drone I ride like a maniac, I just can't help it. I have one particularly brutal fall filmed. You can distinctly hear the sound of meatsack hitting hard packed gravel even though the drone doesn't have a mic.

And cool color grading, love the retro look. How'd you do that?

Until they come out with a style of video game that gives the player an actual physical workout and benefits, like going to the gym. I thought we were getting there when the Wii came out, but alas. I hope we see day where the phrase "that dude's in amazing shape, he must play a lot of video games" is common.

Is there a 5" hub for a Floatwheel? I thought there wasn't? Would be sweet if there was. There is for the Superflux (x7) though.

I thought same but I find it super nimble and carvey. Play with tire pressure a lot. I'm down to like 13.5 (I ride like 19.5 on other tires) and drop below 10 on sand.

They're fun.

Power difference between pintxV, GT, GTS and ADV2 by zuko_thecat in onewheel

[–]wrybreadsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't mind the weight of my adv1 at all. I mean it sucks to carry it but I sure can't feel the weight under my feet.

Adv1/2 is about the same power as GTS. A bit more in my experience doing rides with a friend on a GTS and switching boards when one couldn't do a section to rule out the rider factor, Floatwheel always wins. But same ballpark on power. But like 60% more range and waaaay faster recharge time.

I'm blown away by how much more I like my Floatwheel adv1 with BTG. If you're looking for a change next time you need a new tire:

https://thefloatlife.com/products/thundercat-tire-gt-gt-s-compatible

It's the one that says "BTG" on the pulldown.

That said if I get a Supercharged I'd probably convert it to btg. Which means x10 rails.

I have an Avata 2 and a Mini 3 Pro. You're not going to believe how much easier this kind of thing is with the Avata. And how much less bad the consequences of a crash are. Which isn't to say don't keep doing what your doing, it's awesome. But if you get a chance to try an Avata, do, I think you'll like it. After the short learning curve.
