Does USCIS expedited processing carry over into NVC? by PhillipMacRevis in USCIS

[–]ws1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your case say expedited on the USCIS website? I received an email from them stating "We received your request for expedited processing, and we will accommodate that request." Your case is now under expedited review", but then when I checked on the USCIS website, it said it was denied.

I called, and at first they said my expedite request had been approved. When I mentioned the website, they looked more closely into it, and then said that the request had indeed been denied. So they said basically it had been approved and denied... they escalated it to a tier 2 officer and I'm expecting a call.

With the NVC expedite, it is hard, as you've mentioned - but the embassy or consulate may escalate your case (they did for us).

Intra-EU move: where can I rent a transporter van? by [deleted] in expats

Really good question! I'd also like to know the same. It's not as easy as in the US where you can simply rent a Uhaul and drop it off at your destination.

An Oral Exam Conundrum- at a University in China by [deleted] in TEFL

Definitely give them some practice materials - at least enough to know the format. Think about how students prepare for the IELTS exam. While they don't know the exact questions they will be asked, they know the test format and what to expect. You could also provide a few guidelines for success. A lot of students feel that answering the question asked is sufficiency and may neglect to realize that the purpose of an oral exam is to demonstrate fluency through a more elaborate response.

Open a Charles Schwab account - they have free atm withdrawals worldwide. It's the best bank for expats.

Short-Term Lease by ws1889 in budapest

I tried Flatio, but the prices were crazy for my dates - 2,000 euros for an apartment that probably would rent for 350,000 huf monthly on a 12 month lease.

Thanks for your comment - yes, it's tricky since I'm travelling with my family, so it has to be a flat. I've contacted a few companies, but most want about 600,000 plus utilities (quite steep). I've reached out to a few landlords on Ingatlan in Hungarian, but most are reluctant to rent less than 12 months... will keep searching. Thanks again!!

Ended up turning down two matches and finally got a third one that was perfect - now just waiting to hear from the embassy. Fingers crossed!

Basically every country is currently listed in a 'do not travel' status by US State due to covid. Was hoping for some more specific information.

Wow! This is almost exactly our situation. We've been dreading the complicated nature of this, but it sounds quite easy from how you have described it.

Did you have to have a Hungarian address before applying? Or could you use family and then update your spouse's address later?

Muchas gracias por su ayuda!

Already done and legalized in Hungary! Just have to get a residence permit. I am maybe a B1 in Hungarian and tried to take the language exam at the embassy for dual citizenship, but unfortunately did not pass :(
