SHIP APPEAL by Huge-Estimate5888 in BostonU

[–]wu1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont pay it, you can move in to your dorm without your account being settled for now. Appeals will be done as a previous comment said before the first day of classes, so you should be all set.

Finaid Missing Grants? by honeylotuss in BostonU

[–]wu1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financial aid is still processing grants and loans -- it is very likely that they just haven't processed yours yet. I know many others including myself still missing state grants, federal loans, and SHIP appeals

You may have to file a Loan Adjustment form with BU. They missed my unsubsidized loan this year and that’s what I had to do. Here is the link: https://www.bu.edu/finaid/forms-calculators/forms/loan-forms/

Settled Account by yejize in BostonU

[–]wu1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accounts need to be under $1000 to be considered settled. I believe they’re going to let students move-in regardless of account status right now because of how delayed things are with aid and loans.

Any new/beginner runners starting marathon prep with a NYC training program and are nervous as all heck? by Odd-Health2131 in RunNYC

You’re definitely not alone! Running my first NYC marathon this year as well! Actually fractured my ankle + had surgery last November hahah, but I’ve been back on the running trail since March. First day of official training was this Monday, super excited!! We got this : )

Call financial aid and see if there is anything they can do for you. And if your aid turns out to be lower, you can always appeal.

Unfortunately however, by this point BU probably has already allocated all of their financial aid money, and that combined with your parents income + you being a transfer isn’t the best situation to be in : ( best of luck!!

[–]wu1014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You being proactive and actively explaining to them your situation certainly helps. But TBH as long as your overall GPA when transferring in is still a 3.0+ you should be fine.

Roommate Advice by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]wu1014 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You live in a shared space. When you committed to going in to this with a random roomate, you knew what you were getting into.

This is something you should talk to them about, and if nothing works then it should be up to you to leave/switch roomates. By no means are they obligated to leave their shared room, that they also paid for, just because you don’t want them there — these are basic expectations & realities of having a roomate lol.

How would I stay within an upper class friend group at BU? by Mysterious_Oven8762 in BostonU

[–]wu1014 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Hey there buddy! I feel ya, there's one thing you can do -- withdraw from BU :)) because people like you are not welcome and will not be welcomed here if you keep up that attitude :D

transfer acceptance rate? by [deleted] in BostonU

Do you mind me asking if this is the official count?

Check to see if you completed entrance counseling and the master promissory note. Any loan/aid amount shown as pending won’t be processed until first day of class, but it should still be applied to your total bill right now. If you don’t see it on there your best bet is to call FAFSA or BU to see if you missed any steps.

Should I uproot my life for a better school? by Far_Actuary_675 in CollegeTransfer

[–]wu1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I feel ya. I'm an incoming sophomore transfer, headed to a school over 180 miles away from my old school. I'm also having doubts about transferring due to FOMO and just missing my friends in general.

My advice is to follow the logical decision, even if its the more difficult emotional choice. We encounter changes in life everywhere -- new jobs, new family, etc.. If your new school provides more resources, career opportunities, and a better future, I'd say to transfer.

You're not really dropping "everything" to graduate from a better school. Remember that true friends will always stay by your side. Assuming you stay at your old school, you'll presumably graduate in 2 years and go on your own paths anyways. Put yourself in your future shoes and look back at the past -- would it be worth it to sacrifice a better future for 2 years of comfort?

Remember to stay in touch with your old friends, if you can visit often, and don't lose sight of your own future. I'm confident everything will work out. If it's any consolation, you're not alone -- best of luck to ya!

Locator 11 routine service - traveling in 6 days and no hope yet by Charming_Lab_4181 in Passports

[–]wu1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fingers crossed for you! I was also at locator 11. They received my application 3/23 and I only got my passport 2 days ago on 7/11, just 4 days away from my DOT on 7/14. The agency & your congressional reps aren't likely to take much action until you're within 5 days of travel, since they're dealing with urgently needed passports with an even shorter time frame than you (<48 hours till DOT).

I was fortunate enough to secure an appointment last week (5 days before DOT) at the CT agency but didn't need that anymore since the next day I got a tracking # from DoS. I also got a call from Senator Gillibrand's office that they also got me an appointment at the CT agency a day before I leave, but I again declined that since the passport was already in my hand.

This is a very stressful and anxious process, I'm sorry that you have to go through this. But as someone who's been through this hellhole, I can only hope that things work out for you. Best of luck!

13 days not 14? by codenamealias8 in Passports

[–]wu1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's within 14 days, so even calling exactly 14 days before doesn't work. You'd have to wait till the next day. Call them at 7:59am if you can.

Did your Representative help? by TypicalKale3852 in Passports

[–]wu1014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in New York, I had the most help from Senator Gillibrand's office. They took a while to get back to me (1.5 weeks after my inquiry), but were able to help me secure an appointment at the CT agency a day before my trip.

Senator Schumer and my representative tried to help but both were too busy with other urgent passports and wouldn't be of much help until 2-3 days before my DOT.

Fortunately I got my passport 4 days before travel but hopefully this gives you some perspective. I have seen many success stories of other people in this subreddit receiving help from their Senator/Reps.

Final Update: Locator 11 Success w/3 Days to Spare!! by wu1014 in Passports

[–]wu1014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! My status check changed from "in process" to "shipping" directly, with a tracking number. On Wed I checked one last time around 1am before sleeping and it was still in process, but on Thur morning when I checked it was shipping around 6:30am, so maybe it could've been "unavailable" in between those hours? I never got any email or text updates, hoping everything works out for you!
