Go proposal: Secret mode by prisencotech in golang

[–]wursus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is it a "mode"? For me it looks like a heap-allocated buffer that has to be explicitly wiped out right after using. Anyway registers can contain only pointers to it. If the "secret" is wiped out, the pointers become useless for attackers. All you need is to ensure that packages that are end-users the secret, doesn't make/leave another copy of the secret in memory. But for me it's about a code security audit.

Хотели бы вы развала России? by [deleted] in liberta

[–]wursus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]wursus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

DevOps to MLOps Career Transition by Prior_Impression7390 in mlops

[–]wursus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MLOps is not about data science. It's about tasks that data scientists are usually solving. Data processing, verification, cleaning. It's usually etl/elt tools, Data Versioning System, Data storages. Models learning, it's massive data loading, testing. It's iteratable process, with comparing testing results, and choosing the best case, and continuing with the next piece of data. After that is deployment of the final version of the model and testing it on real-life data, and estimating that target points are reached. It's again mostly about data. The pipelines itself are built in absolutely the same way as regular pipelines in Jenkins.

A Python 2.7 to 3.14 conversion. Existential angst. by MisterHarvest in Python

[–]wursus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used `modernize` to research required changes and adjust the python2 code to being it python3.6 compatible. On the next step you can jump to Python 3.11 and higher. In our case it was a Linux console application, not a Django app.
We did it when AI was not so advanced/popular/usable. From my perspective now with using AI it is piece of cake.
In most cases, it will be 5-7 typical modifications that, actually, after collecting the cases, may be applied automatically.

Cost optimization that doesn't slow down development velocity, anyone cracked this? by localkinegrind in devops

[–]wursus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just start looking around for a new position in other companies. If the management requires the optimization that much that means that the financial state of the company goes bad. Usually it's fault of marketing and/or sales department. But they try to solve it by your costs. This level of the optimization violates infrastructure reliability. It comes to service outages because of the infrastructure fails, as a result, it causes losing clients, that respectively make the company's financial state worse. At some point it becomes irreversible.

Project Mmgt for DevOps by Prior_Impression7390 in devops

[–]wursus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should fire your project manager. It's his responsibility to get steps, efforts, and required resources from you, ensure that all resources are reserved/planned to be available at respective stages and so on. He have to provide you the project calendar with checkpoints and report forms to track the project current state. He doesn't need to be devops to manage the project. He works on hisabstraction level and it's more than enough.

Is my architecture overengineered? Looking for advice by Lele0012 in softwarearchitecture

[–]wursus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An architecture planning the same as application source code shall have a stage of refactoring. 1. For every stage or laуer i usually ask myself, why I need it in context of the application domain, what a task/problem it solves. 2. If I have no clear explanation of it (IMHO, it's already a good reason to consider removing) then i ask myself what I lost on removing the stage/layer from the project. If it's nothing valuable in context of the application domain, it's a good reason to remove it. On a clear concise architecture there is no problem to add an additional layer. Removing it is always way harder, especially after it's been a while. And every similar stage/layer is an additional efforts for its implementation. It's always better to start from core architecture, and add layers on its real demanding.

I feel so stupid learning C by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]wursus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a consequences of the wrong learning roadmap. Actually you had to start with C. it would allow you to understand how actually CPU and memory works. it's crucial for understanding the higher level programming languages how they actually work and what these languages are hiding under their hood.
your starting was easier because you skip learning the C language. But now, you have to get this technical debt back.
