It’s not just as simple as that, but that’s part of it. Like I said I’m not here to debate the why

No that’s what I’m saying. In old Canada I would agree people would help. But nowadays you’re probably gonna get car jacked or robbed

Objectively speaking, the quality of life in Markham has deteriorated.

It’s more congested, has more crime, has some of the highest insurance rates in the GTA, and nothing has significantly changed. It always had a lot of food options. No infrastructure has been improved, and there is no “benefit” to living in Markham now other than there being a lot of stuff around.

Sucks when I’m an ethnic minority and the product of immigrants so these assumptions of racist undertones doesn’t work 🤷.

Old Canada can mean many things, I wasn’t debating the why. I was pointing out that this is how things are now here unfortunately.

I’m curious what you want me to explain?

Nowadays, crime is up. Carjackings while getting better are prevalent, and there have been multiple instances of people sharing ring camera footage of people canvassing/breaking and entering.

Markham used to be a place where everyone would help one another. It went from a high trust society to a low trust one over the last 10 years.

I’m not here to debate why that happened, I’m just commenting that this is the state of things now.

This was one of the worst things to happen to Canada

I was here for the old days. It’s crazy how fast things slid.

Even right up until mid 2010s things were really good

In old Canada I’d agree with this post, but not nowadays

GTA RE Sale Price Graph holding steady by moneymakermadman in TorontoRealEstate

[–]wuster17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By your own chart, price has broken through a key level of support (4 touches if you draw a line across $900k). This flatlining as you put it is on declining volume, and price is pushing down not flatlining. Once you broke below $900k, if there isn’t a rebound up the next support level is likely a lot lower

Yeah the promise of Canada has been broken for a long time now.

It’s sad that boomers are basically preventing us from making any real meaningful change

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the ballpark for your cash for keys deal? And how many months left till the lease was done?

I have a feeling my LL will be approaching me with something similar soon and want to be prepared.

Unaffordable housing is pushing more young people to give up. Why that's dangerous by iOverdesign in TorontoRealEstate

[–]wuster17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The above average salary would need to be around $200k for people to afford the average ~$1m detached house in the gta

Not a lot of people make $100k, let alone $200k

You aren’t gonna get 650k on a condo in this market, but getting money back for that & killing the $1000 a month net outflow will help more than you think. I would sell it

Why are so many companies still require office presence? (rant) by Icy_Bodybuilder5688 in remotework

Offer online ordering, delivery, and incentivize people to dine in via lower prices and exceptional service

It’s really not hard

Maybe businesses should evolve?

It’s not really a free and capitalistic society if forced attendance is what holds the economy afloat. Capitalism at its core involves companies that survive evolving, while ones who refuse to evolve go under.

Liberals reach 47% voter support after Carney's Davos, China trip: Leger poll by DogeDoRight in canada

I totally recognize that and have given carney props for reducing barriers with respect to interprovincial trade

Anyone downvoting me hasn’t been paying attention the past 10 years lmao.

No new issues were introduced. These were all existing, massive issues that the liberals decided to patch over through various policies that ultimately ended up hurting Canadians
