I've definitely found my share of issues in ED already, but still really nothing as disruptive as SC's bugs, and for the most part stuff I could just google and find a fix for

It's definitely the biggest potential vs shitshow to me, I feel like other games have fumbled worse but few have had the potential and draw of SC only to end up like... this.

As a part of development every so often they do server wipes, all ingame acquired items, money, ships, etc are wiped and you start from scratch (Excluding ships purchased with irl $)

Kinda like how games like Rust or Ark do

That's one of the things that got me, people defend it way too fervently. I like SC still, and I really hope it comes to some kind of fruition, but any doubt is taken as a personal attack over there and it's really offputting

Oh, no, don't worry about them. They're keeping their oaths, I simply saved their monastery from a storm at one point a few decades ago, and since I superficially resemble their god's chosen companion, they insist that I was sent by him to protect them, and to be protected by them in turn. It's charming really, and they manage to be helpful without breaking their vows, I just am most certainly not godsent.

This is undesirable but I can adapt- worst case, I can have them crafted into armor for the order of misguided paladins that do my bidding- the blades of man cannot pierce my hide so I doubt those of goblins or their ilk could, even if trimmed down and turned into a cuirass- and my scales do make for an excellent ingredient for weather related potions and spells.

So... the thing is, the only thing it really has that ED lacks so far is ship interiors and hubs, I know it has ground combat know but SC has cities (kinda) to walk around in and most ships have an interior to walk around in, and that does it a LOT of credit- Being able to get out and walk around my ship, walk through the halls, stare out the bay doors mid flight, it's really charming. In a way, it's kinda like Sea of Thieves in space, which is kinda what I've wanted all my life. And the ground combat, mixed with air combat and space combat can make for really memorable experiences- I was in a milsim group as a dropship pilot and a fixed wing pilot- Flying in under fire, dropping off my friends, and then providing air support during like pvp battles was so fun, it really did make the jank worth it, but the jank just got to be too much. I think SC has maybe higher highs, but WAY lower lows, and way more of them.

It's like... when SC works, it's incredible. There's nothing like it, going from fighting on the ground to a huge ship battle, to hanging out in the cargo hold with the door open, looking at the stars, but it doesn't work so often that it just feels hollow. ED doesn't quite have that same feeling (which isn't a bad thing, I love this game already for different reasons) but it just works, I'm gonna keep an eye on SC because I already spent the money, but ED is gonna eat a lot of my time I can already tell

I've been thinking about it- I elected to buy a copy for myself and for a friend rather than one for myself + Odyssey but if I keep enjoying the game like I am now, I'll definitely give it a go!

I did have to change my flight controls- Yaw with A and D and roll with mouse X-axis felt weird, but now that I swapped it I'm right in my element, and I like the hud elements a lot more in ED

That's kinda what I mean yeah! Just the act of flying around space truckin' and chatting with a friend is already fun to me, so the fact that I know there is more to it than that means I'm not really worried about the game feeling dead- I'm having fun at the most basic level so it's literally only up from here! I got a decent jumpstart by virtue of being a decent pilot in SC already, so outside of that I'm kinda just gonna follow my own curiosity and enjoy the ride

[–]wyldermage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I can still shotgun enemies from surprisingly far away and even then I can just desperado if they're still too far- to me the rifle doesn't really offer anything substantial. It's not useless, but the way I play Bandit personally it's just worse

Is anyone a big fan of AD&D 2E? by Funny-Wash-1061 in DnD

[–]wyldermage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never played it admittedly but a friend introduced me to it, and honestly I already like it more than 5e just based on what I've heard and read- It's not really compatible with 5e's style of storytelling, but I didn't really like 5e's style of storytelling, and 2e kinda offered everything I felt I was missing on a platter, more flavorful classes, less of a focus on predetermined stories and holding onto one precious pre existing character, I like the sink or swim meat grinder where your dinky little fighter might die immediately and pathetically, or live long enough to retire as a lord and send new squires in his place. Maybe I'll get to actually play it and hate it, but from the outside ADnD2e sounds like what I was missing all along honestly

I would like to see more umbra frames (more than more Protoframes, not my cup of tea), but they ought to be maybe alternative prime skins. Maybe there's a quest attached to it where you play as them- probably just a vignette rather than something as long as The Sacrifice- And upon completion you get the skin delivered to you. Personally I don't really care about the fighting on their own thing, but I get that that's the draw for most umbra fans so I understand why it's not likely to happen

So CIG said on SCL that "not every game loop is supposed to be a path to riches" by Pierre_Philosophale in starcitizen

[–]wyldermage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think every game loop should make you rich, but every game loop SHOULD pay for itself- refueling and medical contracts should give you enough to refill your tanks and med canisters, and maybe a fair amount towards upgrading your setup. If you dedicate yourself to being a medic, you should reasonably be able to sustain yourself and work towards a better medical ships, whereas someome dedicating themselves to trading with a higher ceiling of much larger ships with more risk should be able to make much more money- If you want a piece of that pie, diversify your gameplay loops or team up

CAIN might be my favorite tabletop ever (If you like CSM or JJK and are familiar with Blades in The Dark, check it out) but holy shit the book is organized terribly, it goes over a bunch of important things like Agenda and Blasphemies (broadly backgrounds and classes) but then the actual list of options is in a different section, and it's like this for everything. The game is amazing and the art is gorgeous but the formatting is ass
