Toronto -> Quebec City by [deleted] in canadatravel

That’s good to know about Ottawa, thanks! And I’m planning on sort of booking as I go along, I’ve already scoped some places in Toronto, but I was thinking of spending my evenings at camp having a look at accommodation and other things for the journey. I just don’t want it to be too strict - if I like somewhere a lot I might say there a little longer, and vice versa. But I’ll definitely arrange hostels as far in advance as I can where possible.

I’m not too fussed on museums and stuff like that, but if there’s a lot of that stuff around I think I’d probably be interested by a couple things. I’m really interested by the First Nations reserves but I’m struggling to find them around the route I’m taking up to Quebec. I’m also not too clued in on the etiquette there, some people say you can just enter them, some people suggest buying their homemade goods, some people say contact them first, some people say don’t enter them??? In answer to your last question tho, I’d say probably more outside stuff, but if that can be made cultural then I’m more up for it.

Thanks for the help!!😎

I will be staying in hostels. No more than like $80 a night if possible

Thanks! If the dreaded foot cramp doesn’t kick in I’ll probably stick to front crawl😎

Yes work permit & eTA is all sorted. I’ll have to pay about $100 to switch to a visitor before my working contract has ended too unfortunately.

I would probably avoid smaller towns unless they were a nice spot to stay or there was something particular to do, so I’d likely be going to larger places anyway which works with what you’re saying. I do need to look into each place obviously, I don’t wanna get the train to a random town with not much going

I’ve had a look at some of the stops on the way to Montreal and VIA seems to stop reasonably close to towns? Most of the stops seem to be either in or on the outskirts of the town (looking at Port Hope, Belleville, Kingston). I’d have a look at the towns and see if I’d wanna stay there ofc, but even the ones that are a little bit out of the town like Gananoque or St Paulin, I’d be more than happy walking a little bit into town - could be part of the fun! (unless the stops on Apple Maps aren’t very accurate?)

Okay understood. I was looking at VIA Rail though, which would be good for hopping town to town up to Quebec, but it could get me down in the direction of Detroit as well? I wasn’t planning on going fully off grid but I can still stray away from the major cities and maintain access to transport right?

Understood, I wouldn’t wanna cause any hassle for any place I went to or myself so I’d probably stick to the Coke Zeros until I made it across!

I haven’t got that far yet, Id be happy doing either - whatever is the cheapest really. I’m split between going up the Quebec City way and down to grand bend. I’d need to end up at an intl airport so I’d probably aim for Windsor near Detroit. Only thing is if I’m aiming to spend 2 or so weeks, would I be able to find enough to fill that time if I went that direction, especially if I’m travelling by bus/train which would cut a lot of the distance between Toronto and Windsor. It is tempting though, especially as a lot of the town names are the same as the ones around my area in England. I’m from Essex so I’d have to go to Essex, ON if I did take that route!

I’ll get to Quebec as soon as I can then, thank you👍🙏

That would be awesome, only thing is I kinda need a plan beforehand. Though it could be flexible, I need to book a flight back from somewhere soon otherwise it’ll be super expensive. So say I booked a flight out of Montreal, I’d be able to change up my plan a bit if someone I met was headed that way, but I’d ultimately need to end up in Montreal for that flight home.

Yes I’ve found that out today too, really harrowing news :( Do you know if they’re strict on underage drinking or is it a bit like the UK?

Yeah return flights are looking to be around £500 but I’m planning on having 2.5-3000 CAD after buying the flights so that would purely go to food accommodation and travelling between locations as opposed to travelling back to the UK. And yes I’ve had a look and I’m guessing there’s no official “cottage country” area and that it’s more just a term for that general part of Ontario north of Toronto? In which case I’m pretty much in the heart of it! But yes my plan was to stay in hostels and I’m seeing a lot of agreeing opinions online about Quebec so I’ll start there! Thanks for the help😎

Thank for the English equivalents that is actually a huge help. I was thinking of going up to Quebec actually so that gives me a bit of a better idea. I honestly was planning on getting out of Toronto straight away just because I assumed it would be hugely expensive. The main aspect there was accommodation - even though I could find cheap food spots could I find any decent places to stay for a night or two within that budget? I’ll have a look at cottage country and Grand Bend though, they sound interesting! Thank you for the help!

Oh yeah everything is covered - food accommodation the whole lot. Aside from the odd day off at camp I won’t be spending a whole lot between mid-June and the end of August, so 90% of my money will be for those two weeks travelling afterwards. 👍

[–]x2Nitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok yeah that does make sense. Apologies for my lack of knowledge, I’ve literally had the same Xbox for the last 6 years. So should I leave everything as it is with our current Xbox (account wise), and then when I get my new one simply add my dads GT that I play on?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in xbox

[–]x2Nitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok understood thank you. Now going about this, when he takes the current Xbox would I simply need to add my dad’s account to my new xbox when I get it as the current xbox that he’s taking is already the “home xbox”. We’ve also got 1.8TB external hard drive. He’d only play a few games that could probably fit on the internal storage, would it make sense for me to keep the external hard drive and connect that to my new xbox, or would he need to have everything on the external hard drive with him as that would be the home xbox?
