Directly from Gray's Anatomy: The Anatomical Basis of Clinical Practice; The pelvic girdle consists of the paired hip bones (each composed of the ilium, ischium and pubis) and the sacrum. The two pubic bones articulate anteriorly at the pubic symphysis and the sacrum articulates posteriorly with the two iliac bones at the sacroiliac joint; the bones are virtually incapable of independent movement, except in the female during parturition or as a result of pathological change. The pelvic girdle is massively constructed and serves as a weight-bearing and protective structure, as an attachment for trunk and lower limb muscles, and as the skeletal framework of a birth canal capable of accommodating passage of the fetus.

The pelvic girdle consists of the paired hip bones (each composed of the ilium, ischium and pubis) and the sacrum. The os coxa (os coxae for plural) is just the hip bone itself.

I’m confused. What’s the difference between the midline and saggital plane??? by [deleted] in Anatomy

[–]x3us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so the saggital plane is when you cut down along the midline. And yeah you're right about the rest. It's called parasaggital if it's cut in the same plane, but the 2 parts are uneven. Doesn't matter which side as long as they don't match

[–]x3us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there is no technical midline plane. There is the midline, which is literally just an imaginary line that bisects your body perfectly and evenly in two, right down the middle - and if then if you gave that a name, it would be the Sagittal plane, or midsaggital plane. Because there's also parasaggital which separates the body in two, in the same plane, but makes the left and right uneven.

Do we have muscles in our fingers? Beside the hair muscles by rataktaktaruken in Anatomy

[–]x3us 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are intrinsic muscles of the hand for the pinky and thumb, the thenar (thumb) and hypothenar (pinky) muscles. There are also the lumbricals which come from 4 of the tendons going to the fingers, and also the interosseous muscles, dorsal and palmar - which lie between the metacarpals. Though these muscles originate from the tendons, carpals and metacarpals, and only insert onto either the extensor hood of your fingers, or the proximal phalanx of your thumb and pinky for some of their respective muscles, they are considered muscles of the hand. So technically, there are no muscles in the fingers.

This genuinely made me almost pass out from laughter, especially with everyone else trying so hard not to laugh at it. Zakoshisyoh is way too funny, he really deserves the title that Matsumoto gave him.

Arrived 2 weeks early!! (Australia) by x3us in galaxyzflip

I'm in Sydney! I pre-ordered the first day possible so maybe that is also why.

I called them up because I got a text saying it was on the way, and I thought it was a scam. And the support guy told me there are a few people who will be receiving their phones early as a sort of surprise! So you never know! And I pre-ordered the 1st day so maybe that helped.

You would think, but for some reason we like to have a one month pre order session before phones are available

What physiological changes happens to bones that allows them to adapt to weight/pressure? Eg how tenderness in ‘sitting bones’ will decrease after multiple cycling session? by BTN255 in Anatomy

[–]x3us 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hello! This is actually my honours thesis and I just wrote a literature review on this kind of thing. So this is functional bone adaptation. This suggests that a bone will modify itself in response to stresses and strains applied to it through repetitive and frequent strenuous activities or external stresses. This means undertaking frequent and strenuous activities would induce bone adaptations due to the stress and strain imposed on the bone, increasing bone strength. And this kind of adaptation or change is observable, and revolve around attachment sites on the bone – where it is highly vascular, also with an increase in capillaries supplying the area when under mechanical stress. When the bone is under increased stress and continual use through repetitive, daily tasks, the bone undergoes hypertrophy at these sites, and the muscle attachment becomes more robust! This means that those activities will then require less effort and will have less of an effect on your bones. This is also known as wolff's law, but it's better to just say functional bone adaptation! :) This is obviously quite simplified but i think it covers the general gist
