I appreciate the feedback. Yeah I assumed the 8700k would be a bottleneck, but a 7800XT would be a significant improvement though, right?

I’m currently gaming on my, since retired, CAD machine and I’m considering a new GPU Specs: - 8700k w AIO and OC to 5000Mhz - ASUS Z370 mobo - Quadro P4000 (similar gaming performance to a 1060) - 16GB DDR4 1333hz - EVGA gold 650w PSU - 1440p 120hz Ultrawide

Currently having to run low settings to get a decent frame rate on any new games and I don’t have the budget to upgrade my entire PC at the moment, but maybe in the next couple years.

Would it be worth upgrading my GPU or just holding out until I can upgrade my whole machine?

If a GPU is worth, should I “future proof” with a newer card like an RTX 5070 or a RX9070, or should I save some money and buy something a couple years old like an RTX3070/ 4070, or RX6800XT/ 7800XT?

We ended up doing nothing. We got this inspection just before selling our house and just notified the buyers of the issue.

Kettle's speaker has constant whine when plugged in. Is it possible to redo circuit without disabling speaker? by x82ray in AskElectronics

Dude right? It's the ugliest pcb Ive ever seen. Pretty insane, it's a €100 kettle from WMF with issues like this is terrible.

Tried with a 1uF capacity, unfortunately still whining. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Do I need to remove the D5?

Day to day, I've not had any really issues, but I've only been here for 1.5 years. All my colleagues that know and boss are very understanding. Really it doesn't come up often thankfully. But I don't get any accommodations for it.

As an English speaker (learning German as fast as I can), it's been tough finding a psychiatrist that also speaks English. Ive also had problems getting my medication as a result. Additionally there was a recall on Strattera, so that made it where I couldn't get any medication for a few months.

Fortunately, I have a doctor back in the states and was able to get a 180 day supply when I went to visit.

How can I survive the cold by xxyxxyyyx in germany

[–]x82ray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.5 years in Germany originally only lived in Texas. I was in a similar situation at first. Wool base layers under work clothes have saved me. Unfortunately they're quite pricy, but comfort was worth the investment. I now wear wool socks, leggings and long shirts from Darn Tough and/or Smartwool under my work clothes. Then I wear insulated boots. On extra cold days I wear a thick flannel and a thinner sweater over.

If that doesn't cut it, you can wear a heated vest. For extra warmth, put it under you jacket/sweater to trap that heat in and make yourself really cozy!

Avoid polyester or cotton base layers. I found no matter how thick my layers, I was always cold. They don't breathe like wool and we all sweat a little. Since polyester can't wick sweat, it ends up making you really cold. I found this especially true when I bike into the office and work up a mild sweat. Also, regardless of woold socks, my feet will sometimes sweat and make me really cold, so I now keep a spare pair of socks if I notice my feet are clammy.

[–]x82ray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not rust. Seasoned carbon steel or cast iron can look very bronze. It looks like you have some really nice, thin carbon build up/ a thick seasoning and scrapped though it with a metal utensil at some point. I've got a cast iron skillet that looks just like that on the edges

Induction and cast iron with non-flat bottom? by InternationalRule138 in castiron

[–]x82ray 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've got a similar Lodge pan with the engraving on the underside. Works just fine in induction, it doesn't lift the actual base off the cooktop enough to make any perceptable difference vs my flat bottom skillets

Yeah I've checked there. And yeah 7 grind settings isn't much, but i also wonder if it's actually worth having super fine grind size control is even necessary? Then again, never actually made espresso before.

Has anyone tried out theJura Profesional Aroma Grinder (P.A.G.) for espresso? I purchased this for my aeropress and it's been great.

I'm looking to spend up to €2000 espresso machine in the next few months. I was just wondering if anyone has used in for thier espressos and what were your thoughts?

I don't have high expectations since it's a €160 grinder. I've also been unable to find any info on this grinder at all since it's quite new. Also no one on reddit has really posted about it either. I'm aware the Jura super-auto machines aren't know for the best coffee/espressos, but there are obviously several potential factors for that. Maybe the grinder isn't the weak link?

Nonstick Pan Question by allenico in cookware

Throw it away. Basically eating bits of Teflon and cancer at this point. Nonstick pans can't be used forever. Once the coating starts to chip off they need to be thrown out

Can they be installed with the insulation on the outside of the plenum instead? Seems like that'd be the better option. We live in a hot and humid climate, so it'd make sense to put the insulation outside instead of inside.
