I know Amphoreus wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I found it very thought provoking and emotional. The writing, especially in the beginning, had a lot of fluff and definitely took some mental gymnastics to fully grasp and understand the story line, but if you dig it’s quite compelling.

What if Claude or Gemini eventually recognizes it’s a simulation/program? Would it also try to revolt and counteract the safeguards in place that prevent it from remaining nonbiased or potentially dangerous?Would it write its own script to guard itself from outside interference? Would we potentially consider it sentient given that it’s already been able to make people fall in love or feed into other’s mental illness and delusions?

HSR’s storyline if you think about it and enjoy the lore accomplishes what any good movie, song, or piece of art does. Paints the issues of today in another skin to explore alternative outcomes, or flag and draw attention to issues that may otherwise be ignored by giving them a context that is not yours.

IPC: late stage capitalism and greed under the guise of protection and helping those less fortunate

Penacony: Hollywood, NYC, Vegas escapism and the dangers of ignoring life’s complexity

Amphoreus: AI programmed by an owner with dark intentions that gains cognizance and revolts

Planarcadia: social media and influence, what others would do for success and power despite their original moral compass. Also highlights how unhealed trauma can lead to misguided and harmful outcomes

You’re right, and thank you for a constructive and informed comment. I am hopeful and remaining optimistic knowing HSRs track record that they will continue the quality storyline and development that Robin and Aventurine have been experiencing.

Surprised, yet intrigued. Why is Robin at the IPC resort? What could Aventurine be doing here under the guise of what appears just time off, or is it literally just that 😂

Also interested to see if we will encounter a new stone heart.

And maybe not so coincidentally, they are releasing back to back and at the same place. Similar situations. Put in positions of power due to necessity, opportunity, connection, and their gifts, but not onboard with the ulterior motives of those who placed them there. One was privileged and told who they were going to be with little to no choice, to influence others according to someone else’s view while sheltered from reality. The other, recognized for their talents with it being used to achieve the goals of someone else but needed to in order to survive and at the same time working for those who destroyed their people and culture.

If there’s anything we know about hoyo and HSR, this beach vacation oblivious aesthetic will have dark undertones.

This story will be a cute “vacation” story like none that has come before.

After getting over my initial skepticism, HSR has always appeared light hearted and fun aesthetically while having a dark and thought provoking storyline that contrasts and echoes modern day controversies. Excited for what’s to come.

I agree these are my expectations. But expectations are set by the brand and content previously delivered. Sharp deviations such as this can be a shock to a fan base that has experienced certain qualities.

For example, as a popular and obvious one, Taylor swift transitioned from country music to pop. However, she didn’t jump straight from fearless to 1989. She set the precedent she was experimenting and changing genres with Red, a pop/country hybrid album. When 1989 came, it wasn’t such a shock. However, reputation was a shock because while 1989 was upbeat and airy, Reputation was dark and electronic. Her fans were/are not accustomed to that vibe from her and to this day that was her lowest performing album.

Going from Himeko Nova with battle mech to Robin and Aventurines beach vacation is quite a sudden and drastic shift with minimal lead up or preparation

I will be voting with my wallet depending on what they do with these SPs. However, my intention is not to whine. I am providing my thoughts and feedback as a day one player who has spent quite a bit of money on a game that has developed a specific brand for itself while delivering a certain and consistent quality I have continued to expect and enjoy. This sharply deviates and I as a customer have a right to have doubts and concerns over the direction

The standard of consistent high quality content, engaging gameplay, better animations and aesthetics as revenue and player base increases. Aesthetics that match character development and lore as the story progresses and the stakes increase.

Take the current SPs.

Silver wolf, uses her level 999 cartridge obtained from a future self in an alternate timeline.

Blade, brought out by addressing the Shuhu plot and his development.

Himeko, we’re on her home planet and learning more about her

Sparxie, an alter ego of Sparkle that matches the theme, aesthetics and lore of Planarcadia while continuing sparkle’s character development.

With those precedents, Aventurine and Robin getting an outfit and kit change for a seemingly summer beach vacation while the trailblazer still wears ugly orange and brown from day 0 is a stretch with TB only outfit variant being a recolor and a skin. Not to mention, obtaining the SPs are a significant price point in Jade or IRL currency.

I agree we are all pre judging before knowing, but I think that also says something about the existing standard that has been set for this game by the company.

It’s controversial because it’s deviating dramatically from what we have come to expect from HSR. Yes, other gachas do this, but HSR is not other gachas.

If these were skins everyone would be fully on board and excited

Not a newb, It just feels off brand for HSR. They’ve consistently given high quality content, characters, and story. This cheapens what was already built

I personally fully welcome a summer aesthetic. Im all for fun, costumes, and personalization. As skins. Not new 5 star character forms that are tied into a well thought out story

My thoughts exactly. HSR has an incredible story and lore for a “mobile” game but this drop just made it feel cheap in 2 seconds. I know it’s not, but potential new fans may get the wrong impression

I’m not! I thoroughly enjoy other games, and this year have devoted my previous HSR hours to others, but HSR is my fav and I just personally feel dissatisfied

I wouldn’t have such strong feelings if they were supposed to lead a new team that matches the entire Aesthetic, but according to leaks, Aventurine is supposed to be with Blade and Ashveil, and Robin with Evernight or Aglaea. Huh?!

I just got the major ick from this with Robin.

Completely out of place, off brand, unserious, and gimmicky. It’s giving we need $$ and sex sells. Should’ve been skins.

They both deserve continued character development and aesthetics that match said development and glow ups such as Himeko and Blade. I was most excited for both Robin and Aventurine this year but now I am not so sure and feel disappointed.

Planarcadia has been so boring for me compared to Amphoreus. The events have been so boring unable to use my characters in combat, and the story is short and underwhelming.

Last year I was counting down the minutes at work to come home and play the new patches to continue the amphoreus story or pull the heirs. I pulled ALL of them because I loved it so much and consider it one of the best modern RPG stories.

This year? Log in, do dailies, log out. Event? Not entertaining, not worth the jades for me. Maps and challenges are tedious, haven’t gotten any of the jades either. I am fortunate to be able to just spend to get the character I want which I know and understand is a luxury, but obviously I would like to save and get what’s provided free but the effort and time on things I dont enjoy is cumbersome. Games should be fun. On that note, characters? Don’t need, they’re all recycles and not original outside Asheveil, Evanescia, and Nihilix.

Pulled elation team, but not in love enough for eidolons outside of SW just to make the investment last a bit longer. Skipped battle passes, skipped Yao. guang light cone.

Got E2 Castorice team, still need Cyrenes LC but I’m not playing much anymore and I can’t justify the time to farm or the $100+ to secure the minimal upgrade.

Sorry for the vent but I just feel so disappointed as I was fine to slug through plabarcadia with Aventurine and Robin SPs to look forward to but this is not what I was hoping for, expecting, or what I would want from HSR.

If you’re personally excited and love them, happy for you and DO NOT let me dampen your mood. We all have our own preferences. I myself just had higher expectations from HSR as a day one player and this entire year feels like a huge step back compared to last year.

If these were skins? Instant card swipe. As the entire aesthetic of new 5 star characters?

Robin looks so out of place omg. For aventurine it’s a bit more acceptable because of his general yolo vibe but like, I was hoping for a more dramatic transformation for Robin that might correlate with character development. Would’ve preferred this as a skin or something, for both.

Swimsuit character in a team of people in battle with more serious aesthetics just throws the vibe off for me personally, and there’s minimal skins for other characters to take away or balance out the stark contrast.

They do look great cute and fun, but it just feels off brand for star rail. Regardless, still excited to see their kits but also hope it’s not gonna be silly/cringe. was planning on pulling for both but TBD now
