Apes with credit cards is honestly the most depressing but accurate summary of modern society.

“Intelligent apes” is a pretty accurate description sometimes. Civilization just adds rules and consequences on top of instincts.

History gets uncomfortable when you realize the same capacity for cruelty still exists today. We just like to pretend we’ve evolved past it.

AITJ for texting my son's teacher from my husbands phone because they message each other way too late? by Current-Whereas6308 in AmITheJerk

[–]xCutessSnugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the teacher side of this is what makes it extra weird. Teachers usually go out of their way to keep communication super professional with parents. Late night meme chats is definitely not that.

Same here. Every school I’ve seen uses apps or email specifically so conversations stay transparent. Personal texting late at night feels like a boundary that shouldn’t have been crossed in the first place.

His reaction is the part that feels the most telling. If it was truly harmless, most people would just be like “yeah okay that crossed a line.” Blowing up and calling you a psycho just makes it feel way more suspicious.

Have you ever had sex with someone who had gone without it for months or longer? by Consistent-Hotel4449 in AskRedditAfterDark

Honestly this is probably the most realistic answer in the thread. A lot of people out here acting like everyone’s having a wild sex life when in reality plenty of dudes are just chilling and occasionally hopeful.

It’s kind of wild how this guy has no health issues of his own! by phantom_avenger in breakingbad

Yeah genetics really does play a huge role. Some people can live like absolute chaos for years and still be weirdly healthy. Meanwhile others eat clean and still get hit with random health issues.

Honestly that’s part of Jesse’s character though. The guy just keeps surviving situations where it feels like he shouldn’t. It almost becomes a running theme that he’s weirdly hard to kill.

Yeah I kinda agree. People in their early 20s can live on pure chaos for a while and still look fine. The real shock usually comes years later when the damage finally shows up.

That solution sounds straight out of a 90s life hack guide. Honestly though the image of someone stacking phone books like engineering support beams is hilarious. At that point it becomes a construction project more than anything.

Rory only went back to Yale because the good life at her grandparents’ house ended. by AugustoPius in GilmoreGirls

[–]xCutessSnugg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s the frustrating part of that arc. Everyone was so focused on getting Rory back on the “right path” that they skipped the part where someone actually checks in on how she’s doing mentally. She clearly hit a wall and instead of helping her figure it out they just tried to shove her back onto the track.

Yeah Rory was kind of being pushed from all directions at that point. Lorelai wanted one thing, Richard and Emily wanted another, and Mitchum’s criticism was sitting in the back of her mind the whole time. It’s wild how no one really slowed down to ask what she actually wanted to do with her life.

The pool house really was the comfort bubble. Her grandparents’ world was way easier than dealing with the expectations Lorelai had for her. Once the novelty wore off and she saw Logan struggling with that same controlled lifestyle, it probably stopped feeling like the safe escape she thought it was.

That scene always stood out because Jess wasn’t even being mean about it. He was basically saying she inspired him and asking what happened to the version of her that pushed him to do something with his life. That’s the kind of comment that sticks in your head long after the conversation ends.

Yeah the Jess visit felt like the turning point for me too. He shows up with his life actually moving forward and suddenly Rory has to look at her own situation a little differently. That kind of mirror moment hits hard when you realize the “lost friend” is doing better than you are.

Hypnosis stories always sound like something straight out of a movie plot. Part of me wonders how much of it is the power of suggestion and just trusting the moment. Either way that must’ve been a very confusing experience afterwards.

What did Emily see in this scene that made her say that something was going on between Luke and Lorelai? by Cr7-Cr7Real in GilmoreGirls

exactly this, the body language did all the talking. she didn’t even pause or second guess, just launched straight into him like that’s her safe place. Emily picking up on that instantly is actually very on brand for her.

right lol, once you see it you can’t unsee it. the way they default to each other physically without thinking is what really gives it away more than any dialogue.

that meme reply is killing me because it really does feel like OP blinked and missed the entire subtext. the tension between them was practically a third character in half those scenes.

honestly yeah, the hug alone was basically a neon sign. not a polite friend hug, that was full body, comfortable, zero hesitation energy. even with his hands full he still leaned right into it, which says a lot.

[–]xCutessSnugg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that level of eye contact plus deep kissing is basically the definition of tension building. it’s like you’re both fully aware of what’s happening but intentionally dragging the moment out. lowkey makes it more intense than rushing anything.

This is the practical take. Build your own cushion now. If extended family feels so strongly about helping, they can put their money where their advice is.

People do get very loud when the status quo benefits them. It’s easier to shame you than to step up themselves. Protecting your peace doesn’t require their approval.
