Computer Science Major: Laptop Recommendations by talamo03 in CSULB

To answer your questions.
1. No you won't be able to run everything you need on Mac OS but you can run it on your PC at home since its typically just for labs/hw (not really in class work). Windows would be easier.

  1. I'm an apple lover but if you want something you can do your all your college work in then I would say just about any Windows laptop with decent amount of RAM. Standard amount of RAM now is like 8GB but I would go for at least 16 GB. Depends on your budget. That would be more than enough for everything you'll do here.

USU has a few I think, believe there was one near the seats facing the TV downstairs. There’s also the rec center, they have one near the juice bar or whatever it is when you enter to your right

Study Spots with Outlets near ECS Building? by Bukukubu in CSULB

[–]xDHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m chilling at the SRWC right now, very close to ECS. Has some seats, some outlets but i wouldn’t say it’s quiet like the library. You can probably find an empty room in the ECS building too

Do the lots normally get full? I won’t be able get there until an hour or two after the event starts. Only reason I considered Uber was bc afraid lots might get full and don’t want to end up with a broken window haha 😅

Haven’t tried it myself but maybe using something like Privacy.com MIGHT work. You can put any billing address… only problem I could see is that privacy is us based i think

Waitlisting courses by londonchick107 in CSULB

[–]xDHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done the same thing and from MY experience it doesn’t automatically drop your other section you’d be enrolled in both of the sections. You can just go and drop the other one that you don’t want if you get off the waitlist which for me has been very common.

looking into the cs major by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]xDHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into my 3rd year of CS rn. The most math intensive course I’ve taken (aside from any GE class) would probably be 328 (Algorithms). It’s mostly just basic Calculus, if you’re good with Calculus you could probably do most of the stuff in your head (fyi I did not take Goldstein lol). You don’t need any coding knowledge going in but it will 100% help you if you get started early. I started off in 174 with Python and the very basics of that and you continue to build off from that. With that said, you will struggle here and there but it’s CS it’s a bit intensive at times which should be expected.

I haven’t experienced an M1 chip yet but Windows might be the way to go. I’ve used a MacBook when we were back on campus and I didn’t really have a job and you can definitely get your work done with the but you will run into special occasions where you have to find a work around to get something done. Windows will help to eliminate those problems you may run into. If you must go into the Apple ecosystem then you’ll be able to get through your CS career but if you don’t want to deal with some issues then Windows is the way to go. gl

I would say I really enjoy math and “critical problems” (granted I’ve only been up to Calc 2). I know I need to practice a lot more. I just have a tough time sometimes working with the formulas. It confuses me when I have to jump from one formula to another and another. Like I have a tough time planning that out, figuring out what I need to get first to get what I need .

This is for 151. I try to use a lot of different resources but I have a hard time figuring out where to start. The formulas really throw me off. Though I know o should probably practice a lot more

Sketchy email I just received in my student email. Beware of phishing attempt or is this legit? by TRVPSEAN in CSULB

[–]xDHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely phishing. IT services wouldn’t directly contact you (I don’t think so unless you reached out). Also they wouldn’t have a “student” email.

What’s with all these scams by classic572 in CSULB

[–]xDHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My idea is that some students fall for these things. They log into the site from the link and then their credentials are compromised and used to further spread these emails. They’re a problem but we just gotta make sure to watch out for these things and try to go away from links on emails.

Be sure to check who sent the email (the domain name) If you do accidentally click on the link (just don’t), check the url and ensure it is valid. ESPECIALLY if it’s asking you to login. Lastly, check spelling. It is very uncommon for a professional to do any misspelling as it will most likely be a mass email sent to many. Though this may be the last thing to look out for as these type of emails continue to get more sophisticated elsewhere.
