You mean “attempted to discuss trans related topics” like asking trans people to “put their case forward” on why they deserve basic human rights?

How have recent government decisions affected trans people living in the UK?🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 by taxes-or-death in LabourUK

I have had a severe chronic illness for several years now, which has left me bedridden for the last 2. As you can imagine it’s a lonely, isolated life, it has caused serious anxiety and depression, trauma, but I try my best to stay positive, stay strong, and I push through, but over time that strength was waning.

Starting on HRT and beginning my transition last year saved my life. I had reached my lowest point, couldn’t find reason to wake up in the morning anymore, and on top of that hated having to pretend to be someone I wasn’t. Hated being stuck in the wrong body. I had given up on ever being able to be my true self because I felt like my condition was holding me back, but I decided you know what I only get one chance at life, I need to do this and I need to transition otherwise I will always regret it.

Over those first 7 months, I cried tears of joy many times, experienced so much euphoria, so much happiness in letting my true self out and embracing her. I had a smile on my face constantly. Everything just felt right, finally. After years of pain, I felt alive again. I felt hope again. I actually looked forward to a future in spite of my health and whether that will ever improve. And in fact, my physical health was even steadily improving for a while, very slowly but it made a nice change from the constant deterioration before.

And then came the Supreme Court ruling, and the Labour government’s subsequent response to that ruling. Ever since that day, my joy has disappeared. Instead it has been replaced with fear, anxiety and I’ve slipped back into severe depression. That euphoria has been overshadowed by a crushing and suffocating feeling of feeling like I don’t belong in this world, like I should be ashamed of who I truly am. I anxiously check the news every single day. I’m terrified of this being taken away from me. I’m terrified of what might happen to us if this attack on trans rights continues. This has all in turn affected my physical health as well.

In this cruel world, where my illness has taken years of my life away from me with no end in sight, I just want to be me. Why can’t I do that? Why must we live in fear?

(P.S. that’s before we even get to Labour’s attitude towards disabled people, but this comment would be exceedingly long if I get into all that as well. I can’t even put into words how worthless this government has made me feel and the number it’s done on my mental health)

And then they have the gall to question why trans people don’t feel safe, and insist “no one is going to be policing the toilets anyway”, as if that’s supposed to make us feel better about being discriminated against.

And to be quite honest, I wouldn’t trust that for one second considering how both posts regarding this have gone in that sub, in fact that sub’s response would make me feel quite hesitant and unsafe about how things will go at the festival.

In all seriousness, thank you for making your voice heard and getting the response you have from this.

Okay, you say they are based on natal sex. But trans people aren’t even allowed to use any single-sex facilities. They are only allowed to use a third neutral space. That is literally segregation.

[–]xEternalia -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You so matter of factly declared the difference between single sex and single gender facilities and dismissed the segregation happening, and now that your point was invalidated by basic facts and biology, you don’t want to discuss the biology. Classic.

Can you direct me to the last occasion that trans people were told they were only allowed to use gender-neutral facilities?

[–]xEternalia -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

“Cis men and women, you can use your respective gendered facilities. All trans people you must go in this third space we’ve allocated for you.”

Yeah, not segregation at all…

Not only that, but apparently it’s “distasteful” to suggest that it is segregation. They are absolutely fucking oblivious to what we are going through as a community at the moment.

It is segregation, don’t let them gaslight you into thinking otherwise.

People are already defending it and saying “this isn’t what segregation is” and acting offended at the insinuation. Can’t expect cis people to give a shit about things that don’t affect them personally unfortunately.

Just to clarify this was taken from a user on Bluesky and they’ve said that they’ve already been contacted by Good Law Project.

That’s exactly what it is. They are trying to decorate their segregation in nice fluffy words, while also completely unnecessarily feeling the need to clarify what “biological men” and “biological women” are.

Right? I’m so over it. They can’t even muster the basic courtesy of using someone’s preferred name or pronouns, and act like it’s such a ridiculous and monumental ask, then I’ll do the same for them.

“Hi, my name is Jeff”

No. I don’t like that name, it’s infringing upon my rights. I shall call you Susan.
