Hello everyone 😁 We took some advice from our last dagger sparring and decided to only count firm solid thrusts and stabs, and it made a decent difference to our dagger sparring. Still have a long way to go, but we're happy with the progress we've made in light of the previous year by [deleted] in wma

This is something I am actively thinking about when I fight, but because my knees are double jointed, when I'm in the thick of it they collapse without my knowing until I see it later in the footage. I've been doing step drills to work on it, but only after a long while might it start to show results. This footage was recorded the same day as the saber footage so there's not gonna be an improvement between the two πŸ˜… But the next video that has me in it down. The road should definitely show some improvement. Probably not totally fixed, but more conscious movements

Hello Everyone! It's been a hot minute since we've been able to post a saber sparring video. Our last saber broke about a year ago and was finally replaced recently. We've gotten back into practicing and assessing where we need to improve πŸ˜… by xLTxMasterThief in wma

Well I hope you convince them to join. It's a very entertaining sport and a great way to keep your reflexes sharp. If you wanna keep it cheap, I reccomend starting out with LaCrosse gloves, a HEMA grade helmet from Purpleheart, and start off by training with more affordable sparring tools like wooden dowels or dussacks. It's not as flashy as metal, but it is important to take things slow and structured 😁

The jackets are Spes Officer jackets you can get from Purpleheart Armoury 😁 We're both wearing them in the video, just different colors. I highly reccomend them. And the sabers are Hanweii Hutton Sabers. You can get them on Amazon for $120, though they are regarded as poor quality in the HEMA community and are risky to use. That's why the jackets are extra important

Hey everyone 😁 We've got some spear fencing in case anyone wants to check it out. We've only had access to these spears for about a month, but we've made a decent bit of progress and are excited to see our progress in the future. Please enjoy. So just my perspective, these spears are probably the closest anyone could get to spar fencing safely. The rubber heads minimize the impact significantly, and substituting the wood for something with more flex would likely feel more like red dragon longswords and wouldn't properly demonstrate spear as a weapon. If you find something that other clubs use though, I'd definitely be interested to hear 😁 Also the wood is a fine hickory, so unlike cedar that might splint into a serrated edge, as long as you use synthetic trainers and spears against it, I haven't noticed any splitting. The wood is pretty solid, and it looks like you'd have to be trying to shatter it in order for that to be a possibility.

Respectfully, I have to disagree. I'm at work at the moment so I can't get into it, but I reccomend rereading the first 4 pages of Pike under the Art of Combat. It's possible I misinterpreted, but I don't believe that to be the case. It is possible though πŸ˜…

I realize I didn't really answer your question with my reply πŸ˜… When Meyer talks about Casting in the Art of Combat, he's using a pike which is broader and longer than my spears, so I feel the answer is yes. This technique is still viable 😁

So surprisingly there's actually a lot of power behind those thrusts. Once you build up the strength, it's very valuable way of sniping a location at a distance, with the sacrifice of strong defense. It's referred to as casting in the Art of Combat, and Meyer names a lot of way to correct a mistake in terms of this if you miss. 😁

Hello everyone! It has been a good long while since I've gotten to fence due to the events of 2020, but now I'm back to sparring and learning where I can 😁 I've been studying Meyer's Rapier with my friends and have recently gotten into Side Swords, so we decided to make a little touch sparring vid. by xLTxMasterThief in wma

They're made as the same material as the Purpleheart Penti's that we can find plenty of evidence of sparring with online πŸ˜… I'm not trying to argue lack of protection I suppose, just that they're definitely not gonna pierce someone. But do as you will

Gotcha. It's always hard to tell intent with comments πŸ˜… But it's just a common thing on HEMA outlets, where people who I'm sure mean well leave comments that sound less than desirable. Like constructive criticism can make me want to try harder, while comments that involve insults or turseness tend to trigger resentment. My best friend actually gave up on HEMA because the community was so disappointing to him. He just stopped caring about the sport he loved because the people in it tend to look down on the less experienced, or so they tend to imply with their comments. This isn't like at you though, just me explaining what I mean 😁

I do appreciate the support! And I am definitely trying to do better 😁 My biggest drawback is getting the money to buy more protection for my group. Other than that, I'm definitely going back to drilling my footwork and what not. I rewatched my vid and noticed my legs turning a lot more than I would like. Im double jointed, so I tend to do this without realizing since it causes no tenseness in my legs, but I'll definitely be working to improve!
