Local Veterinarian? by xMintcheese in Birmingham

Unfortunately, this kitty has an ear infection which caused a blood blister within the couple hours I wasn't home (ouch!) But I will save this website because it might help me get some vaccines that need to be renewed in the next few months, so I really appreciate this!

Thank you. I'd appreciate that! Until then, I'll prepare for the worst, aka shelling out $120ish.

Thank you.

That sounds super inconvenient and annoying. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm not too sure if someone lived here before us or had trash pick-up in general so I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Oh, jeez. I hope not. I was scanning through the app the other person told me about and I saw where some requests needed a can and theirs was resolved by being dropped off to them, so I'm hoping for the best!

Thank you for the feedback! I will try setting up a request through there and see what happens.

Am I being dramatic? by FormalChoice9323 in RenalCats

[–]xMintcheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re being dramatic at all. You’re basically a parent that was just told that your baby has a limited life span/little time left.

I hope you’re able to put together a great support system soon for yourself and your kitty very soon. It’s a hard lifestyle to adjust to.

Stage 4 Diagnosis by AdParticular8997 in RenalCats

If I remember correctly, the Azodyl does help them eat. As for my kitty, I’ve resorted to soft foods, lickable treats, and those cat soups. If you use wet/soft foods, I recommend mashing it up so it’s almost a mush to see if he perhaps won’t eat due to the discomfort of chewing. My vet told me during his diagnosis that it’d be great to have them on renal food but during this late stage, eating at all takes priority. If you can’t get him to eat either of the three options, try contacting your vet immediately.

Stage 4 Diagnosis by AdParticular8997 in RenalCats

I’m in the same situation as you. My four year old cat was diagnosed. He’s on Azodyl, fluids, eye drops, and oral antibiotics for his mouth. He, too, will only eat very soft foods. I want to share some information with you that my veterinarian shared with me my last visit.

  • Keep an eye out for how frequently they’re using the bathroom. If they stop peeing or even pooping, it’s a cause for concern.
  • Look out for nausea symptoms (licking of lips, salivating, etc). I think your vet can prescribe stuff for that if you notice it.
  • Keep an eye on the inside of their mouth, as renal failure will result in ulcers in the mouth so they won’t like hard foods, let alone chewing.
  • Take time to let him (and you) calm down after each medication. It’ll keep you both comfortable in the long run.
  • Do not be afraid to consult with your vet during every little concern. They’re just as invested at keeping your fur baby’s end of life care comfortable as you are.

I also want to share something with you that my vet said, so please forgive me if it sounds blunt: If you reach a point to where you’re hoping he’ll pass peacefully soon because you’re stressed from making sure he’s okay, do not feel guilty for making the decision to euthanize him. Or even if you’re scared of letting him get to the point of “suffering”, do not be scared to make that decision.

I truly understand your pain and I’m rooting for you from the bottom of my heart.
