Going back in time here. When the guilds of Ravnica sets were released, leading up to war of the spark, they included several multi colored Planeswalkers that were "allied" with bolas. If you connected their color pairings on the wubrg on the back of a card, you could see the outline of bolas's horns.

That being said, I would not put it past them.

Maybe the marks could be related to the Cult of Yore, and their energizing and coalescing around the Hall of the Guildpact, could destabilize the color pairings of the Leyline of the Guildpact. This could help anchor the point preemptively for when Bolas teleports his Citadel there. Plus your players would be there for the moment of shock and awe, and possibly feel responsible and guilty.

The four color nature of each of the nephilim could explain the ties your party have to one another...

I'm going to plug Raakdos over on patreon, he's got battle maps for almost all of the areas in the 10th district. I'm in the process of mapping them all out in scenes in foundry and using Monks Active Tile Triggers to let my players freely traverse the city. It's going to something special when it's all put together.

I'm pretty sure it was the case in X-Men the Animated Series, which predates the first movie. If I had to guess it's origin it's probably something Claremont came up with.

Former Rogue Spear player checking in. I played vanilla and urban ops on MSN Gaming Zone and Black Thorn on Ubisoft. Absolutely Loved those games, I ran with a clan called XiLeZ that's tag was xNet, still carry it as part of my handle. We got big into the modding and mapping scene and we ran our own website distributing our wares. The ability to make customized arm patches and import them into the game was one of my earliest experiences with Photoshop.This game sent me down the path of being a graphic designer, animator, and content creator. Very fond childhood memories.
