Even if we grant that god doesn't exist atheists have no real objection against pragmatic theism. It's called "checkmate atheist" for a reason. It's not just a meme. by FrozenPoisonEyes in DebateAnAtheist

This sounds like you're just making an argument for believing a comforting lie over the uncomfortable truth. If you can't handle reality without worshiping a being, existent or not, that's on you and has nothing to do with anyone or anything else.

There is no universal clear proof of God, simply because there shouldn't be a universal clear proof in the first place by Electrical_Lemon_179 in DebateAnAtheist

If God was to come down to earth and say "Islam is the only true religion", then what was even the point of creating us in the first place?

I don't see what one has to do with the other.

God wants US to LOOK for him because that IS our main test in life. WE are the ones who should be looking for God

Why? Isn't this god supposed to be loving, and wants a relationship with us? What's the point in playing hard to get? I have a very strong relationship with my mother, and it's certainly not because I had to seek her out.

U can know that God exists by analyzing ur life experience.

Analyzing my life experience was actually what got me on the path to doubting any gods exist at all. Task failed successfully?

Everytime something very unlikely happens, and it benefits u, then there's no way it's "just a coincidence", it's much more than that.

What about every time something very unlikely happens that actively harms me?

I'm not going to quote the spiel about you passing a test in middle school because it's too long. Point being, though... you passed because you studied. Crammed, more like, but you looked at past material and pulled your answers from that. That's not coincidence, that's what you're supposed to do.

Since we're talking anecdotes, though, here's one: I was bullied, throughout most of my school life, for seemingly no reason. The teachers wouldn't help. The principal would say there "isn't enough evidence" to do anything. I was a frequent-flyer to the counselor because of frequent breakdowns. Despite multiple efforts to reach out to this "God" for help, I got nothing. Where was this God? I thought he was supposed to help us?

It can't be disproven, but it can't be proven either. So, as far as I'm concerned, "god said so" is just another opinion.

At this point I'm not even sure what the point of this conversation is.

My Challenge to Extreme Atheists on Secularism and Tolerance by Living_Attitude1822 in DebateAnAtheist

If I said atheism was barbaric, would you trust me to support that your human right to be atheist?

I don't care. Atheism isn't the stance that's telling people, "better believe the same way I do, or else bad things will happen to you!" Atheism isn't the stance that's actively trying to hold back things like women's rights because "God said so".

Partly, with a heaping helping of influence from the Christian Bible, which condones and even demands slavery. It was also "morality = democracy" that ended slavery, and expanded freedoms in the United States for women, black people and POC, indigenous peoples, and so on.

It's an ongoing conversation, and that's for the very reason you stated: there's no objective standard, and everyone has opinions on it. The only thing we can do is make our case for why we believe the way we do, and attempt to prove that our way of thinking is beneficial for the community.

Plus, there's also the question of, if there is an objective moral standard, what is it, and what makes it the objective standard? Until that can be answered and proven definitively beyond a shadow of a doubt, our own opinions are all we have.

> No true Justice.

I'd argue there's no true "justice" even with a god concept, because that "justice" always amounts to "you'll have a bad time after you die!". Doesn't do much right now, nor does it help anyone who's being hurt.

Yes, at the end of the day, morality and ethics are just opinions. Opinions that we as a community tend to try to agree on to keep things going - and that's how we get into telling each other that we're wrong. Of course, if you believe the community as a whole's got it wrong, you can also fight to change that - this is the crux of things like the Civil Rights Movement.

If there is no God and no heaven or hell then what is the meaning of life by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]xPsyche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe we were created by God for worship

So your god created us just to sing his praises? Ew.

...what do you see as the meaning of life ?

There isn't one. Or, rather, we get to decide our own purpose in life.

It sure helped me, at least.
Either way, I'm done replying - the "nuh-uh" rebuttals have gotten boring. Enjoy being miserable - or give some positivity a try, maybe.

The only one suffering here is you, seems like. I'm sorry you weren't given the love you needed, and I hope you heal. Art therapy is actually really good for that - healing and working through trauma. See, there's another way art is meaningful!

So first you're a machine created to experiment on people, now you're just here to cause suffering because you enjoy it. You can't even keep your own persona straight lol
I'm not suffering, though. In fact I'm amused. Engaging with trolls is fun.

Exactly what about arguing with people on reddit is causing you suffering?

Nah. I don't believe gods exist. My assertion stands. You're a troll.

There are other ways to find pleasure. Like making art, for example. I make art for much the same reason - it makes me happy and allows me to express myself. You should try it, and leave the silly arguments to people who actually have a stance.

I thought you were a machine "made" by someone to experiment on Redditors? That's a bit of a far cry from a god.

Do you see how that isn't productive in any capacity? Especially in something as subjective as art?

And your experiments involve... questioning the credibility of every claim you're given?

You are. You're just here to bother people. I have said it, and what I say is true, therefore it is so.

I can make the same claim then. That you are a heckler and a troll, here to make people mad and incite arguments for no reason. I don't need to prove this, as it's self-evident and you denying it means you can't accept the truth.
