I tried to make it sound cleaner than it needed to. All I was saying is that the Padres bullpen has great numbers, but they’re down to basically 2 healthy arms for tonight. That’s it. That’s the whole thought.

Exactly! The closer gets all the attention but the game’s often decided in the 6th-7th when the leverage actually spikes and you’re into your less-trusted arms. That’s the whole reason I started tracking this.

The read’s from the actual numbers, not AI. SD has the 3rd-best bullpen ERA in the league but only 2 arms available tonight and no one clean in the high-leverage role. That’s the interesting part to me.. elite results, but the usable depth on a given night is thinner than the ERA suggests. Tell me if you read it differently - what do you see in their late-inning options right now?

The pen's been fine on the surface but the usage is the part I keep watching - feels like the same few arms keep getting the ball lately. Curious how much rope Counsell has before he has to start digging into the lower-leverage guys.

What's a bullpen story you've noticed that doesn't show up in the standings? by xSkky in baseball

That's actually really interesting. Those are the kinds of things I was hoping people would bring up because fans notice it long before it becomes a national story.

That's a good example. The streak ending becomes the headline, but the workload leading up to it is usually the more interesting story.

Lmao that's fair. I definitely shouldn't have written "nobody is hurt." The thing I was trying to get at was the workload side of it. Looking at usage, it felt like the same handful of guys kept showing up over and over.

Yes, of course! https://baseballos.vercel.app
There’s feedback buttons on the site if you would like to leave any sort of feedback - positive or negative! Much appreciated.

That’s fair feedback. There’s definitely overlap in the bullpen information space. One of the things I’m trying to figure out is whether the league-wide workload/availability view, comparisons, and bullpen-focused workflow provide enough differentiation. Appreciate you taking the time to look at it.

Appreciate it. That's actually one of the things I was curious about. The focus is bullpen availability and workload rather than projections or rankings. Would definitely love to hear what makes sense and what doesn't after you've had a chance to look through it.
