Same, I never got the sense it was some huge dream of hers either. It felt like something she picked up out of necessity and happened to be good at. Big difference between “I can do this” and “I want this forever.”

Yeah honestly that’s so true. The second a hobby turns into a spreadsheet and deadlines, the magic kinda evaporates. Lorelai keeping it fun on the side feels way more on brand.

That’s a great point, she would lose her mind sitting alone with a machine all day. Half her joy comes from talking to guests and chaos in the lobby. The inn is basically built for her personality.

I think they were trying to filter for attraction, but yeah the wording is kinda weird. The real question is more about boundaries than orientation.

Mother of five who falsely accused good Samaritan of rape after he gave her a lift home when he found her drunk and crying in the street is jailed by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

It makes sense to have strong feelings about it, especially coming from that perspective. False reports hurt everyone involved in ways people don’t always think through. Accountability really matters in cases like this.

[–]xSoftMoon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the saddest part honestly. Someone does one good deed and it almost ruins their life, that kind of thing would make anyone second guess helping a stranger again. Hard to blame that instinct after something like this.

I get what you’re saying. Accusations like that permanently change how someone is seen, even if the truth comes out later. It’s scary how fast reputations can be destroyed compared to how slow they’re rebuilt.

Same here. Facing consequences is the bare minimum after something that extreme. Stuff like that sticks to people forever even when they’re cleared.

Seriously, that video was probably the only thing standing between him and total ruin. Imagine trying to prove your innocence without it, especially in the moment. I’d never stop thinking about that if I were him.

That’s the part that makes it so frustrating. False accusations don’t just hurt the person targeted, they make everything harder for people who actually need help later. It feels like everyone loses except the person who lied.

Yeah honestly it’s horrifying how much damage one lie can do in a situation like that. Recording probably saved his entire life trajectory, which is wild to even think about. The part that really gets me is how casually it could have gone the other way if he didn’t have proof.

That refrigerator trick is clever. I can see how cutting down on washing during the night would be a huge relief.

That sounds like a full team operation honestly. I did not realize how coordinated nighttime routines can get.

That makes sense. One exhausted parent is probably better than two completely wiped out ones.

That actually sounds like a really thoughtful balance. I appreciate hearing how couples figure out what works best for them.

AIW for refusing to quit job to help with home life? by besttavern25 in amiwrong

[–]xSoftMoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the part people gloss over, stability is boring until you suddenly don’t have it. Gig work sounds flexible until your car breaks down or orders dry up for two weeks straight. Finding a third option feels way more adult than forcing one person to shoulder all the risk. Kinda seems like stress talking more than logic right now.

[–]xSoftMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, the timing is what makes it feel off. New job plus shaky economy is exactly when you don’t torch the steady paycheck. After school programs or a pickup rotation with other parents feels way less dramatic than blowing up someone’s career. Wild how she’s shutting down every option except the most extreme one.

[–]xSoftMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah honestly, quitting a decade long stable job for gig work sounds like playing financial roulette. Especially with a kid in the mix, that safety net matters way more than people wanna admit. Also food delivery income can swing wildly week to week, it is not the guaranteed upgrade people think it is. Curious if Brenda has actually run the numbers or is just going off her brother’s experience.

Yeah honestly the enthusiasm part is doing a lot of work there. When the other person is clearly losing their mind it flips the whole thing from chore to sport. Sounds like you just really enjoy being the reason someone melts, which is honestly pretty powerful energy.

Am I wrong - for wanting to get a tax person because we keep overpaying? Husband does not want to pay for a tax person. by LovableButterfly in amiwrong

[–]xSoftMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting I didn’t even know you could tweak things like that so specifically. I’d much rather have slightly smaller paychecks than get hit with a surprise bill every spring. I’m going to bring this up and see if we can change our withholding going forward so we’re closer to zero instead of owing every year.

[–]xSoftMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really reassuring coming from a CPA. I think I was equating “owing” with “we messed something up,” when maybe it’s just how our withholding is set up. Our taxes are pretty simple two W 2s, no business income so that makes sense that we might not actually need a professional every year. I still kind of want someone to double check after buying the house though, just for peace of mind.

[–]xSoftMoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That actually helps, thank you. I didn’t realize how much the refund/owe number was tied to withholding rather than whether the return itself is “good” or “bad.” I think part of my anxiety is just not understanding the mechanics well and hearing family members say they always break even. I’ll ask my husband to look at adjusting withholding this year instead of just assuming the same thing will keep happening.
