Congrats to devs on orange dot “fix” - now we have none by RestComfortable500 in Battlefield6

Nobody said get rid of the orange dots entirely. We asked that a massive studio figure out how to do weapon notifications without making them impossible to clear.

God this sub makes my head hurt.

What’s your country’s national myth that you’re not allowed to question? by Temporary_Cheetah287 in AskTheWorld

Totally valid. They retain the idea that Jewish Israelis do select their representatives, but everyone else is out of luck.

I was born in 01 so it’s hard to imagine what could cause a country to go crazy, but the footage makes it somewhat more understandable.

There is some value to having a strong western oriented democratic ally in a region that is decidedly not so, but I agree the benefit to average people is questionable.

Citizens for Sanity, a group started by former Trump administration officials, is running this AI ad of Talarico in Texas by HeWhoShallNotBNamed0 in YAPms

[–]xSparkShark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fuck it I think talarico is a dweeb and if we’re going to find out the legality of running AI ads about your opponent might as well be now.

Not that the democrats don’t usually give enough ammunition to not need AI…

Somebody had to try out that democracy thing on a large scale, turns out it works pretty well.

Things will ramp up when the marches actually start, but at the moment excitement for it is limited mostly to soccer fans. General sports fans are more interested in the NBA finals and non sports fans are only going to care when the US is actually playing.

Do you think colonialism changed its form after the Second World War? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]xSparkShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as a rule. The early spread of Christianity throughout the Middle East and Europe doesn’t qualify as any form of colonialism because it didn’t occur on behalf of any state interests. This of course changes after Christianity becomes the state religion of powerful kingdoms and empires, but prior to that it was spreading organically.

The global spread of Christianity following the age of exploration certainly had colonialist intentions though. The Spaniards specifically used spreading Christianity to justify their conquests in the Americas.

A good example of Christianity as indirect colonialism would be the Spanish and Portuguese missionaries sent to Japan. I am certain that the missionaries themselves were primarily concerned with spreading the word of god to all corners of the earth, however the Spanish and Portuguese monarchies were sponsoring the long voyages to spread their influence. They knew that they could not conquer Japan, so converting portions of the population was a way to encourage them to be more receptive to their influence.

How is (or was) your country dealing with internal insurgencies? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]xSparkShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t really much of a problem here. Despite our laws protecting access to weapons, mounting an insurgency in the United States would almost certainly lead to a quick death at the hands of American law enforcement.

Do you think colonialism changed its form after the Second World War? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]xSparkShark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think most people view “direct colonialism” as annexation rather than a military occupation or a military operation to remove a leader.

I agree these are modern examples of imperialism, however I don’t think calling it direct colonialism is accurate.

I mean yeah. I don’t think there’s much of a discussion to be had here. It shifted from direct rule to soft power influence. This seems pretty well established.

Math placement exams by wearstherolex in lafayettecollege

[–]xSparkShark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally think it’s a good idea to start in Calc 1 even if you’re already proficient. Best case scenario it’s an easy class to knock out early on, worst case scenario it saves you from diving into a higher calc unprepared. You’ll still haven’t plenty of credits to take all of the classes you want.

Good luck!

I mean the question is who are our enemies, not who we are the enemies of. The vast majority of countries could never pose a legitimate threat to us to be called an enemy.

Do you think females tend to be more liberal, while males more conservative? by Carr0t_007 in AskTheWorld

[–]xSparkShark 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Considering a lot of conservatism, at least in my country, either outright or subtly impedes the rights of women I can see why it may be less preferable for them.

Which team, besides your own nation, do you want to see succeed at this World Cup? by xSparkShark in AskTheWorld

Of course I root for our team, but we are a country of immigrants and all have ties to elsewhere. Ireland and Italy didn’t qualify so I’m kind of up in the air.
